Not easily broken

"The time is now mija." Ms. Rodriguez or as she demands Deani call her Mama, said through the FaceTime call trying to urge Deani to follow through with their plan.
Deani sat on her bed with her head in her hands taking deep breaths to calm her anxiety. "I know, I know." She said more to herself than Ms. Rodriguez. Deani finally got up and reached for her phone that was lying besides her on the bed. She picked it up so Ms. Rodriguez could see her face. "I'll see you soon I promise." She said with tears in her eyes.
"Soon." Ms. Rodriguez replied smiling and they ended their FaceTime call.

Deani went into the kitchen and grabbed her packed duffel bag from the oven, cause she knew he'd never look there, and then she headed for the door. Once she opened the door she saw the car that Ms. Rodriguez ordered sitting outside waiting for her and she just about broke down realizing that she was finally free. Deciding to hold it in until she reaches her final destination Deani went to the car and the driver assisted her with her bag. She took a deep breath and settled in for the ride to the airport, refusing to look back.

On the plane Deani recalled the months of planning Ms. Rodriguez went through to get her out of her abusive relationship and she could not wait to thank her in person. Deani met Melinda Rodriguez on a chat room meant for swapping recipes, the two quickly bonded over their love for the kitchen. They chatted every single day from 9am to 12pm for a month straight until Deani disappeared without a word. Deani disappearance caused Melinda to worry and do some digging of her own and she happened to stumble upon Deanis very empty Facebook page. She used Facebook messenger to video call Deani and was shocked when she saw the badly beaten young woman in front of her eyes. From that moment Melinda took Deani under their wing. She learned that it was Deanis boyfriend of 8 years who had beaten her, she listened to the 23 year old explain how they began dating when she was only 15 years old and how he was the only man she'd ever been with, and ever loved, he was all she had left, and all she knew. It took 8 month of them chatting before Deani agreed go live with Melinda and another 2 months before  Deani actually followed through with their plan.

The plane landed and Deani turned her phone off of airplane mode, in came a message from the only person with the number, Melinda.

Mama💕: There is a car parked on the 3rd level of the parking garage, the first one as you exit the elevator. The keys are behind the wheel on the drivers side. I will be waiting for you @ 4224 Truith lane. There is money in the glove compartment to pay for the parking and food mija. Call me if you have any trouble ❤️

Deani was heading towards the address Melinda had sent her when she drove over a large pot hole which cause the back left tire to pop. Pulling over Deani picked up her phone about to call Melinda when her phone died.
"What the fuck!" Deani exclaimed "wow this is just my luck." She took in her surroundings and noticed a bar about a mile up the road.
"Okay D you have two choices. Either wait here until Ms. Rodriguez notices that something went wrong, or go to that bar charge your phone and call for help." Deani took a deep breath and exited the vehicle with her phone and charger making sure to lock the rest of her belongings inside.
