When Maddy came in there were tears streaming out of her eyes and I realized what I forgot. I just heard yelling, because I was too broken already after I saw her face. I made some ginger tea, turned on the TV to Jeopardy, and sat there. Weeping. I didn't know, what kind of father was I? One that sat in the corner in the darkness, crying and throwing tantrums? One that decided to give up his daughters dreams? Or one that saved the day to one person and made sure there was no day for another? I sat on the small, leather chair and listed my adjectives before I fell asleep.
Broken.
Nasty.
Useless.
Mean.
Heartbroken.
Shattered.
Cracked.
A let-down.
