If you want to know the plottwist in this chapter, you can look over in my tagged book chapter 9. In that tagged, they said you had to spoil one of your books, and I don't really have any other chapters planned out. So now I have to build a whole chapter around that plottwist.

But anyways, enjoy!

Hi. I'm Charlie.

I'm a sophomore in high school. Today my class is going on a field trip to a haunted house. I am sooo excited because I love haunted houses and anything scary. It always gives me the chance to jump into my crush's arms in "fear".

As we got onto the bus, that was the only thought clouding my mind. Snuggling into my crush's arms.

We finally arrive at the haunted house. I expected it to be a huge mansion but it was only a one story house. Seems kind of crappy.

Before we got into the house the instructor told us about some of the rules.

"No attacking the monsters. If the monsters touch you, you come tell us immediately. That isn't allowed. No breaking anything in the house."

My classmates and I stood there groaning. Well that's no fun.

I looked behind me to check who's in my group.

Isabella: my best friend since 7th grade. We know everything about each other. She's really good friends with my crush so she helps me out with stuff.

Andrew: my crush of whom's arms I will be jumping into in a few seconds. He super serious about most things but knows when to crack a smile every once in a while.

John: this really annoying boy who's had a crush on me since 6th grade. He's really techy and really clingy.

Tanisha: she's one of my friends. I mean we're not really friends but we talk when we have a class together. She is in love with K-pop. I even hear her humming "Kill this Love" under her breath right now. She's also a really dark person.

Carlos: he's a super sensitive person. I feel like he'll be one of those people on Facebook that starts arguments for no reason someday. If anyone talks to him, he'll find some way to make that remark racist or sexist.

Lola: the absolute beauty of the grade. Most of the boys in the school have a crush on her despite not knowing her. I mean, she's not mean or anything, but they should know her before they like her. She's super capable and she's really sporty.

The seven of us closed our eyes as the instructor picked one of us. "For what?" you say?

He said he would choose one of us to help out the monsters in the haunted house. But we had to keep it a secret. At the end, we would all vote for who we thought was the monster. If the majority of the votes are right, we will win money. If the majority is wrong, the person would win the money.

As I kept my eyes closed I heard a yell from Carlos saying,"You chose me because I'm a boy didn't you? I bet that's what it was!"

The instructor quickly ushered us to close our eyes again so he could choose a different person. Then we all went inside the house.

A few steps in and I already get jumpscared. "By who?" you ask? John. He jumped out from behind me with paper claws on his fingers I assume he made on the bus.

"Did I get you?" he asks.

"Whatever," I mumble as I walk away.

Carlos quickly excuses himself as he says he needs to use the bathroom. Tanisha gets distracted and wanders off to go look at something. I keep these thoughts in my head so that if a monster pops up, I know who's missing.

And a monster does. A low budget looking one, so I know it has to be one of us. I did take the opportunity to jump into Andrew's arms, to which Isabella gives me a thumbs up. Tanisha and Carlos are still gone. Hmm. It couldn't be Carlos because Carlos rejected the offer. Unless they staged that to make it look like it wasn't him.

It could be Tanisha I guess. Maybe. I'll see.

As my classmates walk down the hallway admiring the decorations, I decide to make a detour to another hallway. As I walk down, I see a definitely not low budget monster pop out from the wall. It terrifies me so much I almost scream. The thing lunges an ax towards me. I dodge it just in time, my stomach jumping out of my mouth. The ax goes straight into the floor, and the monster doesn't move. Maybe it isn't an actual person.

I join the rest of the group to see I had missed out on the second jumpscare by one of us. I look around and Tanisha, Isabella, and Andrew are gone. I think I know who the monster is.

That was the last of the fake jumpscares, so we all walk outside so we can vote on who the monster in the group was. I voted for Tanisha. I heard that monster humming some K-pop song under its breath, it has to be her.

We all await the results.

"3 votes for Tanisha, 2 votes for Carlos-"

"It's because I'm Mexican isn't it?" the instructor rolls his eyes.

"And 2 votes for Charlie," me? Why me?

"Unfortunately, none of you got your votes correct. So the money goes to... John!"

John? But he was there the whole time.

John explains,"I know what you're all thinking. But the man never said I had to dress as the monster, only be it. Last night, I prerecorded some jumpscares of me as a monster and put it into a hologram image because I was planning on scaring some of you already," he winks at me.

"But then I was picked, perfect huh? So I used the hologram and stayed in the group."

"Then why was the monster humming?" I asked.

"The monster wasn't humming. Tanisha was. She was coincidentally right behind the holograms both times, seemingly invisible."

Gosh darn it. Well you have to give him some credit. He really is techy.

I walked over to the instructor, planning on asking some questions.

"Who was the one that acted out the maniac in the separate hallway? I thought I was really going to die, especially when that ax went through the floor. Was that a person or a machine?"

"Which maniac? And what ax? None of our machines or actors have an ax."

Wait what?

Who do you think the maniac in the hallway was? Take your guess in the comments. First person to get the person and the reasoning right gets a follow from me and a shoutout in the next chapter. Everyone else who gets it right gets a follow from me, too.
