"NAITO! Hurry up, you lazy boy! The train leaves in little over an hour!"

A noncommittal  groan is all that Naito could manage as he rolled himself out of bed, falling face first onto the rough, once-white carpeting of his bedroom floor. His cat Beamer nudged him with a quivering pink nose, before meowing in an annoyed fashion, and slinking out to the kitchen, most likely to go sit on the counter - which he knew was off limits.

With a terribly put-upon sigh, he lifted himself up and made his weary way down the hall and to the bathroom for an early morning shower.

"Naito, I mean it! You'd better hurry, or you'll miss your chance at Previon! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity!"

Once in a lifetime opportunity.

Naito scoffed.

Sure. Like hell it was. Being surrounded by a bunch of self-centered rich kids who'd had silver spoons shoved up their asses since birth. Sounded real nice, didn't it?

He slipped out of his bedshirt and boxers and into the shower, a large yawn breaking the serenity of his face. He made sure that the water was steaming hot, just how he liked it, before stepping in.

Shower thoughts were something Naito had often. You know, things like,

How the fuck did the most prestigious academy in the entire fucking land of Nekavia accept me?!

It caused Naito to frown as the water ran down his face.

He and his mother didn't have money, or a legacy. They weren't secretly related to someone who did - or at least, not that he knew of. They barely could look out for themselves together. What was his mom going to do without him?

His job in town didn't pay much, but it helped pay he bills. He'd rather not spend his time waiting tables at the busiest restaurant in the area, but at least most of the girls who came in were cute.  He didn't want to brag or anything, but he was the most popular waiter, and his boss sure didn't mind.

"NAITO!"

He sighed. Still, it was a shame he had to leave.

He slid out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist, shaking his hair a bit to dry it out as well.

10 minutes later, he was dried off and dressed, albeit his hair still a little damp.

"Naito, I fucking swear, if you're not ready-"

At that point, his mom had switched to English, so Naito knew that she wasn't as angry as she had been. When she walked in his room, she was greeted with the sight of her grinning son completely dressed, with his suitcase beside him.

He grinned cheekily at her.

"See, mama? All ready."

His mom rolled her eyes, running a hand through her thick, waist-length black hair.

"Oh, you're gonna get it one of these days, kiddo." She tutted, placing a hand on her hips with about as much sass as the 31 year old woman could manage. "Now, hurry your ass up, the train is waiting, and it's at least a 20 minute walk. Ah, besides, you still haven't eaten!"

Naito huffed fondly, passing by his mother and ruffling her hair. A this point, he was at least 2 inches taller than she was, if not 3.

"I'll eat a banana on the way. Don't worry about me, ok? I'll be fine." His smile drooped ever so slightly at the edges. "I guess I'll see you during holidays?"

His mother sighed, a small smile easing its way onto her slim face. "Don't worry about me, baby."as she straightened his collar, he noticed the faint shake of her hands. "I'll be just fine, you'll see. I'll see you during holidays, and you'll have so much to tell me about, ya?"

He swallowed, doing his best to nod.

"Ok, mama."

He opened the door of their small house with a final look at his mother and the place he'd always known.

"Bye, son! And don't hit on too many girls, you hear me?!"

He couldn't help but laugh, a happy, low sound that sang through this body.

He would be ok. His mom made sure of it. Now, it was his turn to take care of himself.
