"You're not a bad person for the ways you tried to kill your sadness."
Cameron had never overdosed before the Halloween Party.
She had been close, but she never actually crossed the line. When she was 15 years old, her brother found her passed out in her bed, her breathing was slow and very shallow, her pulse was weak and Chris thought she was dying. He frantically shook his sister awake, and Cameron was somehow able to convince him that she just really needed sleep. But, in all honesty, she was thankful to her brother for shaking her awake as hard as he did, because if he hadn't.
Cameron might've died.
That night at Daniel's party, Cameron did die. She was actually dead for like 30 seconds before the paramedics were able to get her heart to start beating again, but they had to pump her stomach before we even made it to the hospital. Even the doctors were surprised that they were able to bring her back.
Cameron's parents and brother met us at the hospital. They came at the exact same time we arrived in the ambulance truck. I stayed behind them as they ran inside with Cameron. Since Cameron had puked and had everything pumped out of her system, she was weak. She barely looked alive, and it scared me. I called my mom to pick me up because there was no other way I was going to get home.
But we sat with the Baker family for hours until the doctor came and told us that Cameron was stable and that she was going to be okay. Heather, Jon, and Chris thanked me for calling and staying with Cameron through the ambulance ride, and then my mom decided to take me home. I appreciated her letting us stay until we knew that Cameron was stable.
That was a week ago, and I still haven't heard from her since.

Cameron Baker hasn't left her room since getting back from the hospital. Getting forced to lie to the police made her feel guilty. Nearly dying made her feel empty. Seeing the pain it put her parents and brother through made her feel depressed. She hadn't touched drugs since she overdosed. Mainly because she didn't have any access to them. Her parents searched her room and bathroom and threw away any drugs that they found. She hasn't left her room in a week either. She stayed in her bed, tucked deeply underneath her blankets and she spent hours watching reality TV on her laptop.
Rue on the other hand also hasn't left her room or her bed since Cameron nearly died in her arms. It was traumatizing and terrifying. Rue was blaming herself. Since she didn't know about Nate blackmailing Cameron, she had convinced herself that the reason Cameron overdosed was because of her and Jules. Rue knew that Cameron felt like she liked Jules more than her, and she never did anything to reassure her it wasn't true.
Which wasn't the reason Cameron overdosed at all, but Rue had convinced herself that was why. So she fell into a depressive slump thinking that it was her fault that Cameron nearly died.
