The Calamity Waves

chapter 1: a humble beginnings

As we packed the tent and gear, we decided to travel the nearby village for the location of the mountain. When we arrived, we asked the lord of the village for clues about the mountain.

He only told us that it had been lost for decades and haven't been found ever since. Then we asked the villagers but it was no use. We sat on the seats near the fountain to discuss how to find the mountain.

"We asked everyone in the village but we still can't find answers about its whereabouts."

We were starting to lose hope when a strange man asked, "I don't mean to interrupt but you are looking for the Mountain of Great Dragons, yes?"

"We are," said Lily,

"You see, my brother and I are chosen to be the warriors of the two great dragons."

The man talking to us seemed to be know a lot about our dilemna so I asked,

"Since when did you know about this?"

"I learned it in the books of History of Time."

The stranger asked us to follow him. We arrived at an alley near the gates of the village. Then he chanted something and the wall moved to form a door.

We entered and were shocked of what we saw.

"Welcome fellow adventurers to thr Academy of Magic and Sacred Arts." The man said as greeting. "Let me introduce myself. I am Cranel Dragoborn, the headmaster of this academy.
For decades we have tried to hide our sacred magic from the world so evil won't get hold of it. Here, great wizards and commanders train the next generation of great warriors to repel the calamity and defeat evil with it."

My sister and I were honored to be in a great magic academy. Cranel held our hands and said,

"Now let me ask your name great warriors."

"Len Shearwind."
"I'm Lily. Lily Shearwind."

Then, a light appeared and scrolls were given to us. "These are your Scrolls of Truth," Cranel explained. "They show you how much you've improved."

Being introduced to this place made me think about training for the calamity. But it turns out I didn't have to worry about that because my sister said, "But... We are to train in the Mountain of Great Dragons."

"I apologize for almost forgetting about that. But you see, there are also ancient areas and places connected to the mountain."

We were relieved and became more determined to train for the calamity ahead of us. We followed Cranel to his office for the rules, our room, and our current class and rank.

I got fighter for my rank and my weapon is named Iron Claws. While Lily got mage and a staff as her weapon. Then we were asked to go to the elements room to know our elements. A great witch greeted us there. Aqua, she said, was her name. She was the element master.

After explaining our reason for coming there Aqua pulled out two orbs and asked us to hold them.

"When you hold the orbs, two types of elements will appear."

She explained that there were seven main elements and five sacred ones. Each individual could have one of each type.

Suddenly, the orbs reacted and when Aqua looked at them, she looked as shocked as we were.

"Both of you... have three elements like me?"

She told us that I had fire, dark, and dragon elements. Lily, on the other hand, had earth, light, and dragon.

Aqua asked us if we had an item that could allow us to have three elements. We showed her our dragon gems.

She seemed to understand more then. 

"I think your elements are supposed to be fire and dark, earth and light, but because you had those gems it gave you the other element. The dragon element."

She updated our scrolls and we walked to our room. Normally, single room would have two girls or two boys, but in our case, the headmaster made an exception.

       
Our room was basically a house. It had two beds, a dining area, a kitchen with a relic that is for cooking using magic dust, a living room, and two closets.

Our uniforms were already there as well, along with our selected weapons, books and quills.

We fixed our things, placed them in their places and went to bed. Everything would have been peaceful but then my sister screamed in the middle of the night.

I knew it was hard for her, having to leave mom like that—even now I still couldn't fully comprehend it.

So, I comforted her that night. Until she slept again. Because it troubled me.

When she screamed in her sleep it seemed like she was begging. She was begging someone not leave her.  

Maybe like the way we left mom...

When I was woken up by my sister the next morning, I was more determined. We ate eggs and bread then headed to the bathhouse.

When we finished preparing, I knew Lily and I were on the same page. We glanced at each other with determined looks. We were ready to train.
