~ Six months have gone by since I started at the D.C.D.A. and it’s been great. I haven’t been on any field missions yet. I hope to get one soon. I know I’m ready.
I’ve learned more about my partner, Nick….but still not much. He’s married to a man named Sean. I was completely shocked to find that out. He dosen’t strike me as the “gay” type.
Anyway, while Nick was kind of a hard ass, he was pretty sweet and caring at times. I even-” ~
“Miss Finn…” Nick interrupted my thoughts, the sudden sound of his voice startling me.
“Yeah Nick?” I looked up from my journal.
He smirked as he tossed a thin blue folder on my desk. “Read over that. Study it. We leave tonight…” Nick sat at his own desk, lighting a cigarette. I glared over at him.
“What? It was my office first, Finn.” He smirked once again as he smoked and sipped his Irish coffee. I smiled and shook my head, returning my attention to the folder, then I noticed what was written on it.
“Field mission: Search and Report”
“Nick?” I looked over at him.
“Hm?” As he met my eyes I could tell he was hiding a smile behind his cigarette hand.
“This is a mission…” I was getting excited as I watched Nick nod. “A field mission…”
“Are you up for it?” He asked, finishing his cigarette.
“Fuck yes, I am!” I exclaimed.
“Then read the briefing. I’ll get what we need.” He chuckled as he got out of his chair.
I opened the folder and read over the content multiple times, but at first I hadn’t noticed the note stuck to the inside of the folder.
“Congratulations, Miss Finn!” You have done very well in your first six months with this agency. Our longest employed detective, Nickolai, has even taken a liking to you. I know you have been wanting a field mission. So, here you go. You and Nick will search a building with suspicious activity surrounding the area and report what you’ve seen. Just something simple for now. Good luck. Keep Nick safe...I know he will do the same for you.
Signed,
Chief Shannon.
I smiled as I glanced over at Nick. ‘He’s taken a liking to me, huh?’ I focused back to the briefing. As I continued to read, I could feel eyes on me. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end as I felt cold shivers crawl up my spine. ‘Not this again, not here…’ I thought.
That static laughter sounded as cold hands rested on my shoulders. “Oh come on, Kitten...come into play with your demon~. Leave these mortals behind…” The being purred.
‘Just leave me alone...at least when I’m outside of my apartment…’ I told him with my thoughts.
“This is so much more fun though...to watch you struggle and squirm...as you try to hide my existence...but for you, my Kitten, I will leave...I’ll see you soon~.” I felt his cold hand caressed my cheek before everything went back to normal. With his departure, I felt warmth again.
“You alright, Abby?” Nick was showing true concern as he stood beside my desk. I could tell he was being serious, that’s the only time he uses my nickname.
“Uh, yeah...I’m fine.” I read over the briefing again.
“You don’t have to hide from me…” He said, his voice very serious, like he was demanding an answer.
