I woke up the next morning, not wanting to get up. "Kira, breakfast is ready." My mom shouts up the stairs.
"Coming," I say. So I get out of bed, get dressed, and then go down stairs. I eat breakfast, say goodbye to my mom and head over to Max's house ( which is where we meet to walk to school) "Hello." I say walking up to him and giving him a high five.
"Hello, Kirazy!" He says. ( Kirazy is a nickname he calls me ) "How has your day been?"
Trying my best not to cry I say,"It's been ok, but yesterday was absolutely terrible. The stupid principle came over and... and told me that I was a waist of time and space and that I'm not aloud to take, Magic Expectations or Defensive Magic. Which are the two classes I have to take."
"Wait what?! He's not aloud to do that, the state has to decide that. Right? I mean they're the ones who made the rule that if you don't pass/take those two classes you can't move up in your education!" He says, almost shouting.
"Calm down. It's really nothing to scream about." I say, trying to draw attention away from us. A whole bunch of kids had stopped what they were doing and were just sitting there watching us talk.
He looks a little annoyed. "Nothing to scream about, no that is something to scream about. They are literally taking away your education. Which I don't think is fair."
"Max, please just stop. You're really not helping anything right now. Let's just drop this whole subject." I say.
" Sorry, I over reacted." he says with a small smile on his face.
"It's really ok. I just don't want everyone staring at us as we walk." I say, with a small laugh. I don't want to know how much teasing, staring, laughing, and so on, is going to happen today, because I'm going to have to just sit outside for two whole classes. This just isn't fair. Why does having no magic, make it so that everyone here hates me. I don't get it. *Ring ring* My thoughts were interrupted by the bell ringing for class to start. "See you at lunch," I said as I ran into the school building.
He looks a little bit sad. "Ok, see you then."
The day goes by normal, me and Max sit at our own table during lunch, I go to all my classes, people stare at me, but everything goes wrong after lunch.
I start to head over to Magical Defense.. but then I remember that I cant go to that class anymore. "What am I supposed to do for an hour?" I ask myself.
"What are you doing out of class?" Asks the English teacher. "If you don't have a good reason I'm going to go talk to the principal."
I knew that this was going to happen. "I don't take the next two classes. In fact the principal is the one who kicked me out of them."
"Why would he do that?" She asks.
"Because I have no magic! Why is that so hard to believe? Why is it bad to be different from everyone else?" I ask, tears falling down my face.
With a look of realization, she says; "Oh it's you. Well that makes a little, no that actually makes a lot more sense. I mean when you have no magic there is no reason for you to take magic classes. It's really just wasting the teachers time. Well I best be on my way." With that she walks away.
"What is wrong with society?!" I shout.
Everyone, even adult teachers, treat me like an outcast, they almost treat me like I'm a sickness. I just don't get it. I'm just a normal person. "It's not fair." I say, getting up of the floor."What's not fair? The fact that your taking up our time?" Asks Magelica.( she's a really popular girl at school)
"You really should just leave the whole school! There is no point in you being here. I mean if you can't take the two classes you have to pass to move up in your education- not that she has much of one any way she whispers to her friend- I see no point in ruining everybody else's lives by being here!"Without saying a word I walk away.
"There has to be a reason." I think to myself. I go up to the main office and ask the counselor if I can go home, because I'm not feeling well. With a relieved look on her face she says yes. So I walk home. Well more of run home. I get inside and run up to my room. I spend a lot of time up here. It's the only place where I can be left alone. The only place that has no magic whatsoever. I sometimes wish I could stay up here forever.Anyway, I go over to my window and sit down on the little window bench. I just sit there for a while and try not to cry, which of course doesn't work. I guess after awhile I fell asleep cause I wake up to hear my mom yelling: "Honey, Max is here."
"I'll be down in a second." I say back. With that I get up and go down stairs.
"Are you ok?" Max asks. "I waited outside of school for half an hour before coming home. What happened?"
"I wasn't feeling very good," I said. "And, I was just done with school. So I came home," I say.
"Ok, well I just wanted to make sure you were ok. Well I should probably
head home but I'll see you tomorrow," he says, walking out the door.I wave goodbye."See ya" I start to head up stairs but my mom stops me.
"The principal came over today while you were at school, and told me about your classes. I know it's going to be hard for you but, I think it's for the best," she says.
"Oh... ok. Well I'm going to head upstairs," I say, walking up the stairs.
She looks a little disappointed, "Alright, just don't miss dinner again."
"I won't." Back in my room I pull out my bag and start putting in some of my favorite pairs of clothes. "I'm done with being treated this way. It's not fair! I'm not that different from everyone else, I don't see why I have to be treated that way." I say aloud. "Maybe if I go away for awhile things will change. Maybe they'll stop treating me differently. So I'm going to run away. Run away from it all. And hopefully when I come back I'll be treated like a normal person." Tears fall onto my bag as I put more of my things inside of it. Besides if I'm gone then everyone might be happier.
