“Love, please wake up.”
Alan's voice filters through my ears, and I sit bolt upright in our bed.

He sounds so upset.

I turn my head to look at him, and the dim 3:00 am moonlight coming through the window highlights the tears falling down his face.
I snuggle up a bit closer to him, and ask,
“Charlie, what's the matter? What's wrong?”

He gives me his hand.. and through his sniffles he speaks.

“I can't feel it. I can't feel anything! I can't even move it!”

The chances of him losing all use of his precious hand from something as gentle as cuddles are very low. He probably just lost circulation.

He's so upset, and he lays his forehead on my shoulder and just cries.

He probably thinks his hand is gone forever.
He always said one of his worst fears was losing use of his hands..

“Oh, Al, don't cry. It'll be okay, let me fix it.”

I hold his hand in my own, bending his fingers and massaging his wrist and palm, even bending it all into a fist before flattening it back down again.

“Is it getting any better, Alan?” I whisper into his ear gently, still playing with his fingers.

He sniffs once, and nods.

I continue to massage his hand until he suddenly moves it, just a twitch at first, but as he regains control he closes his hand around my own, stopping my movements.

He presses desperate kisses all over my face, and with a gentle squeeze of my hand, he looks deep into my eyes and speaks.

“I feel you.”
