We've been walking for a while. All we see are the same things: Dusty, dirty hallways, broken glass, cobwebs. When we come across doors, it's usually bathrooms, or closets filled with random thing. I've gotten to know Jonathan, and he's a really nice guy. I've told him about myself, too. Just some of the random things you tell someone about yourself when you meet them. But, it seems as though we've been friends for a while. We laugh at random jokes, and we have some common interests. If we get out, I hope we're still friends.
"Yeah, science has always been my favorite class, it's just so interesting, you know? How everything is so much more than what we see." He had asked what my favorite subject was in school, and I thought it was funny he was so interested.
"Really? Me too!" We slowed as we came across another door. "You wanna check this door? It might be just another closet?" Honestly, I didn't think we needed to, but we have to check, in case anything was there.
"I'm not expecting much, but yeah, we should." I had been playing with the paper clip in my hand as we walked, so I put it in the lock and twisted it around until I hear it click. I open the door and look around. Just as I'd expected, nothing new.
"I'll search around, and you keep watch." Jonathan says to me as he walks in the closet.
"Okay." I look down the halls to my left and right to make sure the animatronics don't come near us.I haven't heard or seen them since we started walking, so they could be anywhere. I turn my attention the contents of the closet, after looking around for an signs of their whereabouts. All I see are the same old things: Paper towels, cleaning chemicals the colors of assorted popsicles, an old mop and dusty broom, the same old things. Except, I see something I hadn't seen before..
"What's that?" I say, pointing to a small, box shaped object near the back of the musty closet. It has a black wrapping around the sides, and looks to be made of some sort of gold metal.
"I'm not sure..." Jonathan walks over to it and picks it up with ease. He looks all around it, and I'm trying to figure out what it could be. "We should probably take it, just in case it's important." He puts it under his arm and makes his way back out the closet. We continue down the hall at our normal slow pace. If only I hadn't hurt my ankle, we could go faster. 'I wonder what that thing is?' The metal object looks familiar, but I can't put a name to it...
A little after we start walking, I think I might know what it is. Maybe it a..
"Is it a battery?" Jonathan looks at me for a second, then to the object under his arm. After close expectation, he finally speaks.
"It could be. Maybe it could turn the power back on! Do you remember how to get to the security room from here?"
I tell him I do and we start making our way to the only room that make me feel some-what safe. After a few lefts and rights we finally get to the tiny office.
"Here we are. Now the power monitor was over here, so where do you think a battery would go?" He looks around the desk area, searching every crevasse for a place a battery could go. I see there's a small machine under the desk that looks like a good spot.
"It looks like the mechanics are similar to a copy machine. So maybe the battery goes here?" I slowly lower myself onto my knees and examine it. I find a latch on the side and pull it open, revealing a complicated mess of knobs and latches.
"Oddly enough, I think I can figure this out. I volunteered at our local library every summer and had to fix a lot of paper jams." I try to recall my memory as I look at the labeled mess.
