'Kiaranna Bowen, what the absolute hell are you doing?' Amethyst chuckled, watching her dumbass best friend.
'What does it LOOK like I'm doing,' The younger girl asked with a wide smile on her face and mischief in her eyes.
'Get down from there before you hurt yourself, weirdo.'
'But I wanna touch the dog's nose!'
'If you fall from there and crack your head open, I'm not the one responsible for you.' The dark haired girl said, smiling, but exasperated at her best friend's usual wayward antics. She crossed her arms and watched her companion's attempt to climb onto the weathered statue in order to pat it's nose. Why does the university even have this? Amethyst thought to herself, never really questioning the massive dog statue outside of the Performing Arts block.

Amethyst watched as her green-haired best friend stretched as far as her arm could possibly reach, barely touching her fingertips to the snout of the animal statue. She had managed to climb and sit up around its neck so she had a solid chance at actually achieving her goal.
'See, told you I wanted to.' Kiaranna stated smugly, sliding down the statue with the intent of standing with Amethyst. But her graceful dismount of the statue provided a false representation, as she then tripped down the few stairs by the dog's feet.

'How was your second first day?' Kiaranna asked an ice-chocolate-sipping Amethyst.
'Apparently our English professor from last year doesn't teach anymore. We have a new teacher that we haven't met yet.' The older of the two enlightened the younger.
'Then how do you know that she's not coming back?' Kiaranna enquired.
'The teacher that we had today was I think a colleague or a friend of our new teacher? He showed up hungover and basically said we could do whatever we wanted for the period.' Amethyst said, matter-of-factly.
'Isn't that some kind of negligence on his part? Rocking up to a class with a hangover?' The girl asked, sipping her own green tea.
'I mean, he said he wasn't expecting to have to teach. Apparently this 'Mr Kim' only asked him to cover for him this morning.'
'Mr Kim what? Surely you know his first name?' Kiaranna questioned, leaning forward in her chair in the Performing Arts auditorium.
'Well, the substitute said something about not running for Namjoon? And then that I'd get along well with someone of the same name? So my guess is that his name is Namjoon?' Amethyst considered her friend's inquisition for a second, before asking, 'You just want to find my new professor on Facebook or Instagram, don't you?'
'Well don't you?' Kiaranna shot back, 'Don't you wanna see if he's hot? Before he steps into the room? Don't you wanna see if he's single? Don't you want to know what to make conversation about?'
'Kiaranna don't be a dipshit. He's going to be my professor, my mentor, not my future boyfriend.'
'You don't know that.'

Despite it being the first day back in the semester, Kiaranna decided that she'd practice one of her many monologues. As an acting/theatre major, she had to be on top of any and every role that came her way, as surprise auditions - both real or mock - always had the opportunity to present themselves to a waiting Drama major. As an English major, and a supportive friend, Amethyst would often rewrite classic monologues and soliloquy's into different contexts, she would write stand-up comedy skits, she would write slam and regular poetry (though the slam poetry was really more about Amethyst watching her friend be an idiot) to help with her best friend's expression, and she would write duets; some allowed Kiaranna to be joined on stage by Amethyst, and others required more advanced or different partners for Kiaranna.

Kiaranna's home may as well have been the stage. Between acting/theatre and dance, she was naturally relatively comfortable to be in the spotlight. She'd been taking dance lessons for years before finishing high school, and sports aerobics and gymnastics years before that, competing nationally. Kiaranna was also a talented pianist, but the pursuit of music was not quite the right fit for her. Her dream had always been to be on stage or screen.

Kiaranna idolised J.K. Rowling, and having seen the Cursed Child in the 11th grade, she decided that she would be in a Harry Potter show some day. She had been ecstatic to hear that one of the leading roles was played by a boy who had auditioned and trained for the part while he was completing his HSC. Of course, Kiaranna had been in a handful of shows herself, such as the Wizard of Oz and We Will Rock You, but her ultimate goal would always be to be in a Harry Potter show.

So, Amethyst had utilised this, and created for her a monologue about a young Gryffindor's time at Hogwarts which was what she had chosen to rehearse now. She lit up the stage with her emotion, the entire script for the monologue was 8 pages long, but she never once lost Amethyst's interest. Amethyst loved watching her best friend perform; and it was even better when she brought to life a character or story that she had put together herself.

'Are you serious right now?'
'Yes. Yes I am. I want to know how hot your professor is going to be.'
'Well can you not show me if you do by any chance find one of his social media profiles, I want a surprise when I see him, and God knows he's probably like some 50 year old.'

Kiaranna had finished the section of the monologue she was working on committing to memory, and the pair had gone to hang out at A Touch of Paradise for some food, as it was currently 6 o'clock at night. 'I have that dumb Mr McCaster for biology period tomorrow.' Kiaranna had said, following the question of what classes the pair had the next day.
'McCaster? Wow dude, wasn't he absolute trash last year? Didn't he fail anyone with less than 99% attendance?'
'Yeah, I can't even comprehend why he's allowed to teach still, being so damn old and strict.'
'Well at least you don't have Mrs Hurley for food tech, you remember how much I complained about her last year. That woman hellicopters me!' Amethyst laughed, 'For good reason I guess, I did set that pancake on fire accidentally that one time, didn't I?'
'All I remember about that was that it was your first lesson and you were really freaked out about messing up like that, you basically foretold that something was going to happen.' Amethyst chuckled at this and continued.
'Biology, then you have an acting theory class, and then you've got dance, yeah?' Kiaranna nodded, taking a swig of her coke.
'And you've got food tech, korean language, and then your fancy English class, am I right?'
'Yeah you're right, I'm keen to see what this new professor is like.' Amethyst said, absentmindedly.

Around 8 o'clock, the girls called the day quits, parting ways from the small cafe. As soon as Kiaranna stepped foot inside her dorm, she pulled her phone out from her jacket pocket, assumedly immediately opening either Instagram or Facebook, and searched for the name of Amethyst's new professor.
