Caught in the crossfire, the young boy scampered into the empty abandoned building, hiding behind the walls which he hoped would ensure his safety. The ear-piercing crackling which came from the constant shooting between the two sides made him wish he had brought along his headphones in a pointless attempt to block out the racket from the constant gunshots. He took a deep breath, closing and opening his eyes with the idea that he would wake up and that it was a dream. It's not real, right? He kept trying to wake up, but this wasn't a dream. It was, to him, a living nightmare.
A bullet pierced through the door, right beside his face, and he felt the bullet graze his hair. Tears began to form in the corners of his eyes, and he quickly ran further away from the entrance.
Until he heard the door open. The cocking of a gun. He couldn't help it, he began to sob as quietly as he could to avoid getting caught. Why did he have to be here, why couldn't he be somewhere else, with his friends? This isn't how he wanted to die. Wake up! Wake up!
But he couldn't. And the footsteps drew closer to his shaking, small figure which was curled in fear behind an empty cabinet.
"Hello?" The voice of the intruder called out, gunshots still loud and clear in the background, "Come out."
He didn't move, he was paralysed. His soft sobbing was evident as the intruder began to walk closer to his spot. His cowering figure, he was so vulnerable. He was sobbing harder, yet still trying his best not to be heard.
Then, it happened.
"I found you." He heard a whisper from right behind him.
His heart stopped and he felt a cloth cover his nose and mouth before his world turned to black.
