Chapter 10

During the night, I heard a sound.

It woke me up and I think it was coming from one of the three pathways we went through yesterday. It sounded like a low, moaning/growling noise mixed with a little groaning. It was very eerie and ominious. I tried going back to sleep but it was disturbing me.

I decided to get up and investigate. Athena was still sleeping so i crept quietly in order not to wake her. I slowly walked through the darkness and i was very careful not to step on anything sharp.

As I went deeper towards the sound, it got louder and louder. I felt afraid of what I was going to come up to. When I stopped at the pathways, the noise screeched from the right and brought me down to my knees, holding my ears. When it stopped, my ears were still kind of achey. I stood up and took a deep breath, I stepped towards the one on the right and went in.

There were pieces of diamond scattered in the ground which gave the cave a slight illumination. I was breathing irregularly and then I came across a clearing. I was slightly confused because I couldn't see anything but also relieved.

But suddenly, out of nowhere,

A ferocious roar came from beneath me and a giant testicle got hold of my leg and dragged me down into the abyss.

As I was being dragged into my everlasting doom, I saw colours coming up from all sorts of directions. They spun around me as the creature laughed and growled hysterically. I was feeling sick and dizzy and time was going way to fast as I was zooming down.

Then I came face to face with it.

It looked too similar to the beast that was chasing me only it was far bigger and had larger teeth. It was just staring at me with lust, saliva drooling down its jaw. I have never seen anything like it.

Just as I thought this was going to be the end, a figure came flying down at the speed of light and I was grabbed and back to the surface in a split of a second. When I returned to the top I saw it was Athena, she looked very cross with me.

"Didn't I tell you this part was forbidden?" She shouted tapping her shoe. I felt very guilt and ashamed of myself.

"I'm sorry, I heard a noise and I thought...." I really couldn't find the word to finish my sentence.

"I thought humans were intelligent but you are very stupid," Athena said.

"I'm very sorry," I said. She sighed and shook her head.

"Just don't do it again, okay?"

"I won't". She smiled and we went back to our hangout and went back to sleep.

When I woke up, there was some bread and fruit next to me but I couldn't see Athena. I started eating and then Athena came back and joined me.

"Today is the day were gonna shoot you up to the surface," she said.

"Are you sure your plan will work?" I asked anxiously.

"Certainly and I decided I'll be coming with you since it's long time since I've been up there and I'll admit, it does get a bit lonely down here sometimes," she said looking down. I smiled at her and then I suddenly remembered what happened earlier.

"By the way Athena, what was that creature that nearly tried to eat me?"

"Oh he's my pet from Venus. He's very exclusive but then he started misbehaving so I stopped feeding him for a time so he's a bit cranky," she said while slightly going red.

"Ahh okay that makes sense".

We finished eating and drank water from the lake. Athena got a bag then started packing lots of food in it.

"How far away is your cousins place from here?" Athena asked.

"Quite far to be honest".

"Okay crazy girl,' she joked and made sure he had enough food.

"Can I also put some gems in there?"

"Go ahead," she said not looking at me. I started to unload the gems that I had in my pocket and then I put them in the bag, including the Red Ruby Heart.

When the bag was very full, Athena started explaining.

"So I'm going cause an eruption from underground which will be strong enough to penetrate through the crust and will shoot us out. I will put you in a bubble that will protect you from the lava for 30 seconds".

"Okay, so I won't feel a thing?" I said to make sure.

"Nothing and don't worry, the bubble won't pop or anything," she said reassuringly.

"Okay let's do it!"

Athena nodded and started pacing around the spot. When she stopped, she started to jump up and down and the force of her feet was very strong. She continued doing it until she caused a crack and I felt a little rumble.

"Perfect," she said. She started to blow a bubble and it sooner consumed me. I felt a little uncomfortable but I held it in. She then flew to the top of the cave then around and was gaining speed. It was not long until you can barely see her which then she suddenly crashed into the ground and she went deep underground. I felt the earth violently shake as she returned and rolled me over where the crack was.

"Get ready," she smiled and she sat on the crack while clutching the bag. I braced myself and soon we were shooting upwards. I felt nauseous and I could see Athena just enjoying the magma licking her feet. The layers of the lithosphere were parting before my eyes and the light was slowly getting brighter at the end of the tunnel. I heard the anger of the magma from under me as it was trying to escape. It wasn't long till I saw daylight. We blew high into the sky with the sun shining brightly and everything coming into show. Athena stretched out her wings and started flapping. I suddenly popped in the air and she caught me. We returned to the ground and we were back in the forest.

"Wow I can't believe it actually worked!" I said with amazement.

"Yeah I know right," Athena said with a little bit of shakiness.

I looked around and everything was the same. The dullness of the trees and that deceitful flower that I saw earlier. I kissed my teeth at it and got up.

"So which way do we go?" Athena asked.

"That way," I said pointing towards the distance mountains. She nodded and we started walking.
