Chapter Three

Nik is now back in town and not just for a visit. He wasn't gone for that long. Saying something troubling and interesting has come to his attention, so he's staying for a bit longer. I stay in his office/art room, continuing to work, sorting through my work. Fixing each portfolio, preparing them to be sent out.

I can hear groaning from the other room, Nik was 'working' in. Not to long later one of Nik's servants came in and places a plate of food on the empty space on my desk. I give her a quick 'thank you' as she leaves.

After eating, I take my plate to the kitchen, passing by the dinning room where Nik, Rebekah and Stefan sat talking. "There is no cure for vampirism." I hear Stefan say, causing me to stop in my tracks in the doorway in the kitchen.

"He's telling the truth, Stefan." Rebekah tries to convince him.

"Then why wouldn't you have searched for it, found it?" Stefan questions.

"Because when the hunter drew their final breath that night, the marks disappeared from their bodies, the map was gone, the brotherhood of the five, extinct. For nine hundred years, there was not a whisper of another hunter, until our friend in there showed up in town." Nik explains.

I walk away from the doorway, no longer wanting to listen to them talk about that. A cure? So many vampires would kill for that, for good or for bad. I don't want to be involved in that right now. And go back to finish my work.

Some time later Nik walks into the room. "Clara, can I steal your attention for just a moment?" he asks as he walks over to me.

I look up at him, and face him completly from where I sat, "Yeah, sure. Attention is yours." I tell him, leaning back in the chair.

Nik gives me a smirk, making me raise an eyebrow at him, "How would like to come with me, on a little adventure?" Nik asks.

I sit up, leaning forward a bit, "Adventure, where?" I ask, very intrigued by this sudden proposition.

"Oh, just Italy. I have a quick business venture there. Thought you'd find it refreshing to go somewhere new." Nik explains as he walks away from me, fiddling with some of his paint brushes, glancing at me at the end.

I stand up and walk over to him, and stand in front of him, I can feel my eyes widen with excitement. "Are you being serious? Italy?" I question, excitement clear in my voice.

"Yes. Now do you wish to a company me?" Nik asks me, again smirking once again.

"Yes! Yes! oh, when do we leave?" I respond, a wide smile on my face.

Nik chuckles at my excitement, "Soon. Now go pack. It's a short trip, only a few days." Nik explains, walking me out of the room.

"Oh, this is so exciting! I can't wait!" I tell him, kissing his cheek and quickly head to my room.

-----------------------------------------------------

We arrive late that night/ very early in the morning in Italy, and lucky  me I wasn't Jet-lagged. I surprisingly had quite a bit of energy due to my excitement of being in Italy. Nik was needed to get people to get to work immediately so I decided to tag along with him for the time being. Apparently they were trying to dig up some hunter sword.

Nik's phone rings and he looks annoyed at who was calling him. He walks away to take the short call and rejoins me letting out a sigh. "I'm glad you came with me love." he says to me.

"Does it have anything to do with that phone call?" I question, looking at his eyes, practically seeing him thinking miles a minute.

"The hunter escaped." Nik explains, letting out another annoyed sigh. "I have to inform Stefan so he doesn't call me 20 times later." Nik tells me looking down at his phone.
