Looking For Tomorrow // II

Chapter Four

Being back in Mystic Falls just confirmed how suffocating this town was. Instead of staying in the mansion alone, I decided to accompany Nik out with whatever he was doing today, much to his delight.

Nik 'has' to go to Tyler's home. As we enter one of the rooms in the Lockwood mansion, we see Tyler, a girl, and a hybrid.

"Well, don't let us interrupt. " Nik says, gaining their attention. The girl put distance between herself and Tyler.

"I didn't know you were back." Tyler says, narrowing his eyes at Nik. 

Nik walks further into the room, "Clearly." he tells Tyler, walking over to a table and pouring a drink for himself, and taking a sip. "We just popped round to celebrate Dean's successful retrieval  of the vampire hunter. Yet when I arrived, I learnt that not only was Dean unsuccessful, but that Elena killed the hunters." Nik tells them in annoyance.

"Well, maybe if you had let Dean use force on Connor instead of sending him on a suicide mission." the girl sasses Nik.

Nik looks at her, "maybe you should mind your business, wolf girl." Nik sasses her back.

"Wolf girl? Wait are you Hayley?" I question the girl, remembering Nik bring her up before. 

She looks at me and raises an eyebrow, "Yeah, who are you?" She asks me, a bit less sass then she gave Nik.

"I'm Clara." I tell her, ignoring the sass.

"Oh, you're his girl." she says with slight wide eyes, like she was surprised.

I glance at Nik then her, "Yeah, I guess." I say, confused on how she knew me.

"What do you care if Connor's dead anyways?" Tyler says to Nik, catching our attention again.

"I have my reasons. They've ceased to matter. Cheers." Nik tells him then talks another sip of his drink.

A knock comes from the door behind me. Tyler walks pass me and opens the door to reveal Caroline. "I brought your stuff. Old laptop, your jersey, the charm bracelet. " Caroline lists off.

"Car, this isn't a good time." Tyler says to her softly.

"Just take it." She tells him. Nik walks over to me, putting his hand on my lower back.

"Hi, Caroline." I say, breaking the awkward air that has filled the room from the two breaking up teens.

She looks over at me a bit surprised, then her eyes narrow as she crosses her arms in anger. "By the break up drama unfolding before me I assure you're met Hayley. " Nik says taunting her and Tyler but neither respond. 

"Alright, come on, let's go. Let's leave them alone. Your talents are needed else where. " Nik says to his hybrids.

"For what?" Tyler tries to questions as the hybrids that were around the house meet us.

"I think you've got more important things to deal with mate. " Nik tells Tyler before leading me out of the mansion, the hybrids not to far behind us.

Nik went to go retrieve Elena because she killed the hunter.  He explained to me that she'll be having visions of the hunter until she kills herself and hes going to help her, not do that in a sense.

When he brings her to the mansion, he only lasts a few people see her. Telling me shes dangerous to be around, and if she saw me she could see me as the hunter and try to kill me.

Nik didn't want me to be alone with Elena in the house so he brought me to the grill. We sat at the bar, Nik having me try some wine, much to his amusement. Then Caroline walks over to us.

"Place looks pretty good considering your hybrid got blown up in it. "She says as she takes off her jacket.

"Caroline, what do we owe the pleasure?" Nik says to her as she sits on the other side of me.

"I want you to give Elena back. " she tells him, straight forward.

"Ah, they sent you to sweet talk me, maybe even guilt Clara to have me free Elena? Well, good form, but I'm afraid I can't do it. " Nik tells her.

"Why not?" She questions, with a bit of sass in her tone.

"She needs my help," he tells her honestly, causing her to scoff and roll her eyes.  "Look, I'm not gonna burden you with the gory details, I know you have enough on your plate already. " he tells her, looking at her this time, a bit annoyed.

"That's none of your business, actually. " Caroline tells him defensively.

"Yes, well, just know that if Tyler was still sired to me, and he never left, he would have never hurt you." Nik tells her, then takes a sip of his drink.

I fully turn to Caroline, "Would you like to have a drink with us?" I offer, hopefully to get her mind off of Tyler and hers breakup.

Caroline thinks for a second, before giving me a small smile. "Yeah. Thanks." She tells me, and I return the smile.

Nik gets caroline a drink of her choice and she looks at her phone, then looks at us and gives us a smile. "So, heres the thing, I didn't just come here to try to get you two to release Elena." Caroline admits to us.

"You dont say." Nik says sarcastically taking a sip of his wine.

"I came here to distract you and Clara so that Stefan could go to your house and break her out, which he did. And, dont get mad, but then he lost her." She tells us, causing my eyes to go wide at her words. Nik angrily stands and starts to go towards the door. "Klaus," Caroline tries to stop him.

He stops and looks at her, " Caroline; Clara cares about you, but if you dont stop talking, I will kill you. " he threatens her, trying to be calm. He turns around and starts to walk off again.

Caroline glances and me with slight panic and guilt then looks back and Nik, "they figured put how to stop the hallucinations. " she blurts out, causing him to stop once more.

He turns around once again, "Okay, you have ten seconds to tell me." He tells her.

Caroline explains to us that if Jeremy activates his Hunters mark it'll stop Elena from having the hallucinations. The two of them plan out who Jermey would have to kill to save Elena. Nik made a deal with Caroline that they can use one of his hybrids, but Caroline in turns would owe me a favor instead of him, which surprised both of us, but Caroline agrees.
