"Jones, Ayessa Grace?" Therese, a beautiful woman, in her mid-40's that looked like 22, called me and my heartbeat fastened because of a mix of nervousness and excitement but more of nervousness.
"That's me.." I raised my hand and she stood on her tiptoes to see me amongst the crowd of other students because I'm shor-- I'm fun-size. When she saw me, she gestured her hand for me to come forward and gave me a warm welcoming smile.
"Please place your hand in the scanner." I did what she told me and placed my hand in the scanner and after half a minute a card came out of the small kind of like an atm card slip and she took the card and gave it to me. "Smile" she said and I took the card and I heard a faint flash and I saw my picture appear on the card then I realized it was my ID and the reason she made me smile was because once I touch the card it'll take a picture set it permanently.. I think? I didn't really listen.
"Don't worry, you can change the ID picture if you want to." she said and ushered me to continue I gave her a small nod and continued onwards the school gate and once I set foot inside my jaw dropped.
It was big really big and I see students practicing their skills and such. I can see them train their physical and mental powers and everything I saw felt like a dream.
I know you're confused so let's rewind from before.
A Day Before......
I woke up at 6:00 even though school doesn't start until 9:00 but I still wake up anyway since it has always been a habit.
I walked through the hallway of our house and walked in the room of the person that I really miss. My little sister. I'm 16 and she was 14. Last year, when I was 15 she disappeared and my mom said that she joined Dad up in heaven.?
Everyday, I kept coming back to her room reminscing the times we spent together. We were really close and when Mom told me about the news I felt like a part of me was torn and I didn't go to school for a week. Even my so-called "friends" were "worried" about me and yes I used air quotes because they weren't really my real friends. They just suck up at me because of, not to boast, my popularity.
No, I wasn't the type of popular girl with beach blonde hair and wore short skirts and short shorts on school. I was popular because I was known as 'The School Sweetheart' because of my kindness, excellence in grades, and bubbly personality and when my "friends" got the news that I was absent they took the spotlight. I didn't really care because If I had the chance, I would turn back time and be the quiet and mysterious type of girl that keeps herself to herself because if they knew the real 'ME' they wouldn't call me The School Sweetheart.
I really miss Alessa, yes that's the name of my little sister. She always knew who I was and we would always pour out our emotions by pigging out and emptying the contents of our fridge and pantry. I wish she was still here.
"Sweetheart? Are you okay" I turned around to see Mom standing at the doorway with an expression of guilt mixed with worry but what bothered me was... Why is she guilty?
Then I saw it for a bit. I saw it for 0.52 seconds just kidding I wasn't really counting but I saw it. My mom's eyes were dark brown but I saw them become bright purple for a second and I was surprised but her eyebrow's furrowed.
"What's wrong , Sweetie?" she asked. Was it just my imagination? It looked so real..
"Nothing I'll just get ready for school." I said and she nodded and when I was on the way to the bathroom I heard my mom murmur something and it was like "I'm sorry" and I just dismissed it because I thought it was because of the loss of Les.
I checked the clock and saw that it was already 7:45. I got ready and I arrived at the school at 8:25 and I go to the school library because it was kind of my morning routine, I arrive about 30 minutes early and head to the library.
"Hey, the deliver came yesterday would you like to try the new book? This is an extra so you can answer it if you want." the librarian said. She was like a second mother to me. She knew about the real me just like Les and she always keeps me company. We've been so close that she trusted me with the spare key of the library.
"Thanks, I will." I said and took a seat. I saw that it was a bunch of logic questions and I started solving. Piece of cake.
There were detective questions and others were just riddles and they were all a piece of cake. I finished it and gave it to the librarian and her eyes widened.
"What?" I asked with my eyebrows furrowed.
"This is a 500 page logic questions book." she said... yeah so?
"Yeah I know and there were like a 700 questions ...So?" I asked
"Did you finish all of them?" she said flipping through the pages.
"Yes.... Why?" I asked
"Ayessa...2 minutes and 45 seconds. You finished this in 2 minutes and 45 seconds" after she said that my eyes widened and I didn't know. I checked the time and saw that she was right.
I was about to say something but her phone rang and said that she needed to go.
I spent the remaining mintues at the library and when the bell rang I hurried to class.
45 minutes has passed in class when someone spoke at the speaker.
"Ms. Ayessa Grace Jones please proceed to the president's room. Ms.Ayessa Grace Jones please proceed to the president's room."
I looked at the teacher , Ms.Axford, and just like mom I saw her eyes turn bright purple. I looked at my classmates to see if anyone saw it but I frowned when I saw that they were all busy with whatever they're doing. Ms.Axford gave me a small smile.
"Come on, they're waiting." she said I followed suit with my bag and continued to the president's room. I have never been there. Everyone said that students only go there for one reason..... To be expelled. I was scared and nervous because what if I was expelled? What would mom say? Why would I get expelled?
"Don't be scared" she said and smiled at me.
When we reached the president's room I was amazed at how young the president looked and from my peripheral vision I saw a lady that looked like 22 sitting in the president's couch and when she saw me she greeted me and I replied with a small nod and smiled.
"Ms.Jones I called you here because of one reason and that is becau--" the president started talking and I cut him off.
"Would I get expelled? Why? Did I get a B? I always get straight A's so why would I get expelled? Was it because of my over visit at the library? I'll stop going if it's that. Please don't expel me. I didn't anythi--" I was cut off by Ms.Gomez, the librarian.
"Don't worry you didn't do anything wrong. This was about the thing that happened at the library earlier." she said and I heard the president chuckle a little.
"You mean about the logic book?" I asked and she nodded I looked at the president for some explanation and I was glad that he started talking and I sweared to all Gods that I won't interrupt him again.
"Yes. It was about the logic book and I was really glad that we found you." he said .Found me? what? "You finished it in a span of two minutes. You have extra ordinary powers Ms.Jones. When you first transferred here we thought it was just our imagination but Ms.Gomez kept investigating to confirm our thoughts and the logic book confirmed our theory."
"You're one of us" the woman in her mid-twenties spoke."My name is Therese. I'm 46 years old." she added and my eyes widened when I realized that she's not 22. I'm still in shock so I just gave her a faint smile.
"One of what?"
