Chapter Four

"Now for the ultimate question," Ana announced, looking at Rose. "Who gets Dark first?" All four girls liked Darkiplier, but Ana and Rose were definitely the most obsessed out of the four of them. Everyone technically could have a chance to do VR with each Ego, but only one at a time.

"You're the one who won this whole contest, the rest of us are just along for the ride. You go first and I'll have my chance with him after you. I'll chill with the actor until then, to see what it's like," Rose decided.

"Are you sure?" Ana checked.

"Yeah, dude. Just don't take too long!" Rose joked.

Each girl took a seat in a chair at a desk. Ana went with Dark, Rose with Actor Mark, Joy with Damien, and Lily with Wilford. Mark put a headset on each of them, one by one, each time pressing a button on them and checking software on the corresponding computer.

"The headset is essentially scanning your brain, getting to know the ins and outs of it and prepping it for this new kind of VR. You won't actually be wearing the headset when you're in the virtual world," Mark told them.

"Virtual reality is possible without the headset?!" Joy questioned him, surprised.

"Well, you'll have to wear part of it. Once the headset has prepared your mind, as it has with yours..." Mark pulled a small circular piece about the size of a quarter off of the side of Joy's headset and held it out to her. "...you'll just have to wear this. It will stick on well enough to stay on, but it's easily removable. You can place it on your temple, either side is fine. Nothing will start until I initiate it."

"Wow. Cool!"

As the VR technology was prepared, Mark removed the circular transmitter pieces from their headsets and handed them to the other three and took the rest of their headsets off. Mark helped them place the pieces on their temples to ensure the correct location of the placement, and then it was time for the fun to start.

"Alright, it seems like you guys are all ready to go. Remember, nothing you see or hear is really there - it's all just in your head. So there's no need to worry about anything effecting you in the real world. And you won't physically feel anything, or at least not people. Your hand will go through any person you try to touch, although you'll be able to sit on furniture without falling through it, luckily. It's going to feel real, but you can exit at any time. I'll be monitoring things on my end and Ethan, Tyler, and Amy will be helping me with that, too. If you feel like you need to exit the simulation at any time, just tap your temple twice, where your transmitter is. That will turn it off. If anything seems weird or uncomfortable, just tap twice to exit. Sound good?"

The girls all nodded in confirmation.

"Good. Go ahead and check out your computer screens, options should be popping up to customize your simulation. Choose what you'd like and when you're ready, hit start."

They all looked over their options. For Dark, you could go on a dinner date, hang out at the Manor, or see a play. With Wilford, you could swim at the Manor, hang out at the disco, or be on a show with him. Damien's options included roaming the Manor with him, walking in the forest with him, or cozying up by the fire with him. With the actor, you could party with him at the Manor, star in a movie with him, or attend a VIP event with him as his plus one.

Ana knew she had to go on a date with Darkiplier. She selected the dinner date option without hesitation and hit start.

The transition from reality to virtual reality was strange. Ana's vision went totally black, and she felt herself panicking a little bit. She spun her head around wildly in her chair, trying to find some kind of light to indicate that she hadn't gone blind.
