They couldn't believe what they were told. It didn't matter how nicely the CEO put it, the words sounded the same with a heavy sugarcoat on top. The leader was told ahead of time, but he didn't expect to be blindsided like that — and right during their first comeback preparations. Hajun was annoyed with how nonchalant everything seemed.
"Why are you doing this? To us, specifically."
"Look, since you're young and don't know how business works, I'll break it down for you..." The man got up from his desk, walking around to stare out the window of his office. It overlooked the city, the sunset casting a coral glow across the district, reminiscent of those ending shots the nineties' animated shows. It was pleasing to the eyes, but not in this situation. "This group isn't bringing that much money in—therefore, disbandment is the best choice. For you and the rest of the stockholders."
"But why? You can't—you know we've been working hard, we have a comeback to prepare for!" Hajun raised his voice, loud enough that some staff could hear from the outside. The man turned back around, raising a thick brow at the young male. He couldn't believe this nobody had the audacity.
"It seems you've forgotten who you're talking to, Mr. Jo."
"No, you forget that this is the second time you do this to us. I can't believe I wasted my time like this.." Hajun mutters the last part to himself. Holding the last of his dignity, he gets up to leave. If he stays any longer, there might be a physical altercation and his reputation would be ruined if that went down.
"By the way, thanks for nothing, sir." With a sarcastic smile, Hajun shuts the door behind himself and briskly walked back to the elevator.
Tears prick at his eyes as he steps in, pressing the button so hard in hopes that the doors close faster. Hajun shouldn't be crying now — he still has to tell the rest of his members and that's going to be the hardest part.
As a leader, he failed them.
