T h e e n e m y i s o u t t h e r eHalf of a mile off the coast of La Huerta, you attempted to steady yourself in the speedboat with Jake and Sean. A raging storm swirled above you, orange lightning flashing amid sheets of pouring rain. The enormous sea monster reared up from the water, directly in front of you.
It let out a roar that seemed to split the sky, and the entire earth trembled in fear around you.
"Swerve." Jake said quickly as the boat refused to slow down. "Swerve! Swerve! SWERVE!"
Sean jerked hard on the wheel, just as the sea monster dove towards you, it's jaw wide, teeth glistening in a mouth large enough to swallow the entire boat whole.
You grabbed onto the edge of the boat as Sean swerved out of the path of the beast's diving plunge. The rail was slippery and wet beneath your fingertips, and you were suddenly thankful for the fingerless gloves that came with the outfit Quinn had given you.
The monster let out a roar of rage and slammed into the water right where your boat had just been. A huge wave smashed into the side of the speedboat, making you jolt viciously as you held on tight.
"We all good?" Sean screamed over your shoulder, and Jake nodded. Another wave slammed into the boat, and a short scream tore through you.
Jake lunged at you, covering your body completely with his and wrapping one arm tightly around your waist, the other clinging onto the rail.
The sea monster swam out into the water and turned around sharply. In a flash of lightning that briefly illuminated the ocean, you could see the true magnitude of its massive scaled body below the surface.
"We have to run! Get back to the island!" You yelled over the harsh winds, and buried your face into Jake's neck to shield your face form the vicious rain.
"You really think we can outrun this thing?!" Sean demanded, swerving the boat again.
You groaned as the monster roared once more.
"The way that thing swims?! No way in hell!" Jake agreed with Sean, but you still shook your head adamantly.
"Listen, Princess, I never back down from a good fight. And killing that things the only way to get off this island."
"Kill it with what?! All we've got is a speedboat and three people who have no idea what the hell they're doing! It's gonna take all of us to take this thing down, and we need a plan to do it! Trust me! That thing doesn't want us to leave, so if we turn around and retreat the chances of it backing off are something I'm willing to risk." You explained, and Jake stared down at you with a war waging behind his eyes.
"I always said I'd rather go down fighting than running, but there's no way in hell I'm willing to take you down with me. We'll run." He nodded.
"Okay, but... let's do it now!" Sean yelled back at you, and you nodded as you and Jake backed towards the end of the speedboat.
Sean jerked the wheel hard, swerving away from the monster. The boat did a hard 180...
Even as the monster reared up, sucking in freezing air, orange lightning sparkling around its gaping, toothy maw.
"Go, go, go!" Jake yelled, and Sean pressed down hard on the pedal and slammed the throttle as far forward as possible. The boat streaked through the water like a bullet, away from the monster.
"Come on... come on..." Sean growled, and urged the boat on faster.
Behind you, the creature dived into the water. For a second, it seemed as if you might have escaped... until it surged up, right in front of you, and you saw a wave come slamming towards you.
