"Shit!" Lucas cursed as he leaped forward, just in time to catch the girl's limp form into his arms, before she hit the ground. He quickly crouched down into a hunched position, and adjusted the girl, so that her head rested in the crook of his right arm. He supported the rest of her upper body by propping her frame against his bended knee. Then, with his other hand, he cupped her cheek, making sure to be very careful not to jar her.
He gave her a gentle shake, "Hey!" he whispered urgently.
"Hey, wake up!" he tried again. No response.
"Jesus... What happened?" he mumbled, even though he knew that his words went unheard. The girl had on, what seemed like a gown. Similar to those which nurses, patients and doctors wore in hospitals. Blood soaked her light blue gown, in dark red patches. The poor girl was covered with cuts and bruises and what seemed like small tiny holes in her arms, probably large needles, from what he could tell. The largest of the injuries on her body, was the one in her right palm. It was a deep, ugly gash, which stretched out across her palm, a little into her wrist. Lucas grimaced, then he let out a string of curses, all of a sudden feeling angry.
What could have possibly happened, for this poor girl to end up in this battered a state? He thought, fuming with rage. It looked alarmingly obvious that she had been under the subject of abuse! The thought of anyone hurting this frail child channeled a fresh wave of anger inside him and Lucas exhaled loudly, trying to calm himself down. Using his free hand, he tried to wiped any blood from the girl's face, being very careful of all the cut and bruised areas. He then continued, by pushing lightly at the strands of hairs by the girl's face, and tucked them behind her ear.
His gaze wavered for a second when he finally got his a clearer glimpse at the face of the angel laying in his arms. Lucas was so caught up staring at the stranger's tiny face he didn't notice the breath of air that slipped his own lips. Even with the cuts and bruises on her face, she looked beautiful. He felt a strange tug, suddenly, deep down in his dark, heavy heart. But, she looked so weak and thin, plus, she was so still. If he wasn't craddling her so closely to his chest he wouldn't have been able to tell if she was... Lucas' s breathing suddenly picked up its pace. He started to panic. The angel in his arms had definitely lost a lot of blood, because she was as pale as a ghost. Worry and concern covered his brow, causing him to frown.
He had to do something and quick, because this girl was hanging on by a thin thread, and a really thin one at that. A series of things rushed through his mind as he decided on what to do. He was at a lost. It was like with Russel all over again. The first thing he thought of was to bring her to the hospital, but something in his gut told him that that would definitely not be a good idea. The other option would be to mend her up on his own. Well, techinally he was a doctor... at least an animal doctor. He had the necessary tools as well as medication. If anything it probably boiled down to the medication dosages. He could fix the cuts, as for the bruises, he would probably be able to take care of them easily by simply putting on some ice or ointment. He would have to check for any internal injury though, judging from the battered state his angel was in. Wait... his angel. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
Damn idiot! There lay the girl, and as much as he was willing to admit, almost on the brink of death, - and here he was smiling in a daze. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Lucas shook his head and the small action, causing the girl to move a little and she groaned as a pained expression played across her face. Right, gentle. Okay, so he would be able to fix her on the outside later, but what was he going to do about the amount of blood she had lost? The angel's chest was barely rising now and that really scared Lucas. He had to do what he could now, if not, as soon as possible.
Lucas adjusted his arms so that he had a steadier hold on the girl and bent low so that the lovely angel would be able to rest her head on his shoulders in the crook of his neck. Then the front of his shirt caught onto something just as he was about to stand.
