Emma Charlotte Phillips felt her legs quiver. She ignored the harsh, cold evening breeze lashing against her bruised body and pushed herself further up the rusty, metal ladder. The rugged sneakers that clung to her feet only increased her chance of tumbling down and her long-sleeved, turtleneck sweater and worn out, loose fitted, blue jeans were a poor choice for the weather.

Her arms and legs felt like mush but she knew that she couldn't stop now. She continued to propel her body upwards while doing her best to ignore the unbearable pain caused by her broken body.

"Just a bit more," she whispered to herself. "Almost there."

When she reached the final rung of the ladder, a surge of adrenaline rushed through her veins. She effortlessly climbed onto the concrete roof and scrambled to the nearest edge. When she looked down her breath hitched in her throat. Everything below looked so minute from her superior view. The stormy overcast sky prevented her from identifying the objects she was soon going to be lying lifeless next to. She knew at that moment that she was definitely high enough and all she needed to do was take a step forward to end it all.

Just as she was about to move forward, she felt herself falling and for a second she thought that she was going to die finally and relief washed over her. She didn't even feel an ounce of pain. She had expected it to hurt at least for a bit. When she opened her eyes, she found herself staring into the most intense, emerald green eyes. She quickly realized that she was on top of a trench coat wearing green-eyed man.

She gasped when he effortlessly flipped them over. He easily restrained her with his body weight, arms and legs. She tried to struggle within his strong hold but her efforts were fruitless. She was tired, weak and in pain. There was no way she could fight him off. He was much larger than her and appeared to be in great shape.

"Boss we've got to go!" she heard a gruff voice yell out. "What do you want to do?"

"Eros!" He commanded. The familiar sound of a helicopter approaching echoed in her ears. It was almost a deafening sound.

Emma was confused. She couldn't understand what was happening. She was brought back to reality when the green-eyed man clenched his hand around the bottom of her chin and tilted her head away. She tried moving her head back but his grip was firm.

"Stay still!" His voice echoed in her ears. It was rough and commanding. She hadn't realized it before but his voice was heavily accented. She found herself curling her toes as she waited in anticipation.

In her new position, she couldn't see anyone but she was aware that someone was approaching. She heard the sound of heavy footsteps growing closer. They couldn't be missed. She squeezed her watery eyes shut.

"Ah!" she gasped loudly feeling a sudden and sharp prick in her tender neck. In her sudden dizzy haze, she felt hands patting against every inch of her body. He was searching her. That was the last thing she remembered before her eyes fell shut and darkness took over.
