Sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft, golden glow across the room. Tiny flecks of dust floated lazily in the light, shimmering like scattered stars.

Fingers traced absentminded patterns over warm skin, her eyes still shut, nose nestled into the crook of his neck.

A hand slid through her tousled golden hair, a contented sigh slipping past his lips.

Skye curled closer, molding herself against him in a way that only skin-to-skin contact could achieve—though she didn't mind the fabric between them.

There was something about this. About simply existing beside each other, exchanging quiet touches, sharing space.

To her, it was far more intimate than sex could ever be.

Her palm flattened against his chest as she tilted her head, blinking sleepily up at him through her lashes, drowsy but content.

"Good morning," Stefan murmured, the corners of his lips lifting in a lazy smile, fingers still sifting through her hair.

"Morning," she mumbled back, her words punctuated by a yawn that scrunched up her nose.

She hated waking up early. Even with company like this, it meant an entire day of yawning uncontrollably.

Stefan chuckled at her expression, amusement flickering in his eyes as he reached out, tapping her nose with a single finger. Skye giggled, rolling onto her back.

She stared up at the ceiling, feeling the weight of his gaze on her. It prickled over her skin, pulling at something deep inside her until she couldn't ignore it any longer.

Turning back onto her side, cobalt blue met forest green.

Slowly, she reached for his hand. Their fingers interlaced.

For a moment, she just looked at them—at the way they fit together—before letting her gaze travel back to his.

Nibbling on her bottom lip, she felt a flicker of satisfaction at the look in Stefan's eyes. Desire.

She let her lip slip free before leaning in, letting her lips barely ghost over his.

Stefan responded instantly, pressing harder into the kiss, but she pulled back just as quickly, teasing.

She cast him one last look, lips quirking, before sitting up and swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. Her feet dangled for a second before she stood, stretching slightly as she padded toward the bathroom.

At the doorway, she turned back, a knowing smile playing on her lips.

"The Winter Wonderland charity event is today," she reminded him. "Maybe you should change. You promised Caroline you'd come."

Stefan groaned, rolling onto his back and throwing an arm over his eyes. "I need to see Klaus first."

Skye's smile faltered. "What for?"

Stefan propped himself up on his elbows, watching her carefully. "Take your shower first. I'll tell you after."

She hesitated, wanting to press, but eventually nodded before slipping into the bathroom.

Letting the hot water chase away the last remnants of sleep, she prepared for the day ahead—fully aware that town events in Mystic Falls rarely ended well.

After dressing in a purple floral skirt and a white jumper, she returned to the bedroom only to find it empty.

Her brows knitted together—until she heard noise from downstairs.
