Song: One Way Or Another- Blondie

After a moment, the professor came in- late, as per usual, holding a chipped coffee mug, a pile of books and papers and his brush. He never went anywhere without his brush.

"Alright everybody, shut up!" The whole class became silent immediately. Mr Kingston was a good teacher but he could be strict at times and he scared some of the more timid girls in our class. As for me, well I sat up straighter and made sure I had everything I needed. He spoke to us again. "Alright, who's been writing?" His eyes scanned the room. "Two of you? How do you guys expect to ace an English Language class if you're not writing in your spare time?"

The class groaned simultaneously save for those who had their hands raised. Still. Namely:

Raven and I.

Mr Kingston sat down heavily in his chair, put his feet on his desk and twiddled a pen between his forefinger and thumb. He looked between the two of us then looked up at the ceiling, sighing. He looked at us again, then glared at the rest of the classroom. Then he looked back at us. He picked up his brush and attacked his hair and watched the class again.

This went on for some time.

Mr Kingston was obviously trying to pick who to call on.

"Ok, Ver-" he began but the doors being flung open interrupted him. Every head turned around as a girl walked nonchalantly into the classroom. Her hair was dark blue, cropped short like Coraline's and she was wearing almost all black- black jeans, black leather jacket, black canvas Converse. Only her long-sleeved, tight crop top refrained from the gothic design and was a startling white.

"Stephanie!" Mr Kingston shocked the class by knowing who this imposter was. None of us had ever seen her in our class in the three months we'd been here. "Thank you for daring to grace us with your presence!" He exclaimed sarcastically, setting down his brush. The girl, Stephanie, appeared unaffected by his words and looked around for a place to sit. I gulped.

The only spare seat was next to me. Because of course it was.

She strolled over to me and sat down in her seat, dropping her bag on the floor without a care. I looked down at my lap, wishing I had someone else on the other side of me. This girl intimidated me and I had no idea why.

"Ok, as I was saying. Raise your hand again if you've been writing." Raven's hand shot up once again and I rose my hand half-heartedly. "Okay, Verity. What have you been writing?" he sighed, taking a sip of his coffee.

"Uh... um... I've just been writing some fantasy... type stuff." I glanced nervously at Stephanie but immediately looked back at Mr Kingston when I realised she was looking right at me.

"Oh yeah?" Mr Kingston appeared intrigued. Damn it. "What's it about?"

I swallowed, trying to dislodge the lump in my throat. I wiped my hands on my leggings and then shoved them into my hoodie pocket.

"Uh... it's just about... like... faeries 'n' stuff." I shrugged my shoulders, hoping no one was really listening to me. Unfortunately, the hope was lost when I heard a couple of snorts behind me.

"Dennis, would you like to comment on that?" Mr Kingston looked expectantly at Dennis. The class turned to also look at him. "Seeing as, you know, you don't even write in your spare time and I actually have no clue why you even take this class?"

Dennis looked down at his desk. Then he looked up.

"Well, I didn't take it to write about soppy faeries and fantasize about trashy romances." Dennis flicked a pen around his fingers. "My books will be bestsellers! I'll write riveting crime novels, I'll have you hanging on every word like a lifeline!" He gestured widely then brought his arms back in, waving them about his face mysteriously, "Hell, my books will be so good, they'll have books about them, people will wonder how I got into the criminals heads so well! They'll conspire... wondering... perhaps I'm the criminal as I make them pay for my chilling stories?" Dennis finished with a flourish, falling into his seat and folding his arms.

The whole class looked impressed. Apart from Raven, who generally only had room for an expression of contempt and Stephanie who looked ultimately bored.

"Well," Mr Kingston smiled grimly. "I must say, you have a pretty neat plan." He began brushing his hair again. "But you'll get nowhere if you don't even bother to practice writing in your spare time. Verity here might be writing about 'soppy faeries' but at least she's writing and I'm sure what she's writing will be equally as intriguing as what you choose to write- if you ever bother to."

Dennis scoffed but a crease appeared between his brows. I chuckled and turned around.

After what felt like forever, the class properly began.

Song: Human- Krewella

After classes ended (English class, a break, another English class, then a very long break and finally a long photography class, in which I had to stay behind in as I had to make up for lost time due to forgetting my camera), I began the walk home. First, however, I went into the shop next to the university, grabbing a snack-sized pack of grapes and a Black Grape KA to go with it. As I queued to pay, I considered just going straight home but instead decided to detour through the park so I could take some late afternoon photos. I felt my phone vibrate and took it from my pocket.

Incoming call: Artemis the Great

I sighed and let the phone ring and ring, people glaring at me until it abruptly stopped as soon as I exited the store. It pinged and vibrated again, however, this time with a text.

Hey I know your ignoring my calls as per usual so I guess I'll drop ya a text. we've got a new room mate coming in tonight she's taking the sofa bed and the box room for storage so dont be home too late k?

I went to put it back in my pocket but it vibrated again.

Oh and don't u bloody dare to try and correct my grammar lol

I laughed and switched the phone off. Walking towards the park, I took a swig from my bottle of pop, slipped it into my pocket and began taking pictures of the leaf-covered floor, a carpet in a thin forest leading to the fields, the playground and the lake. The lake which glittered in the light of the setting sun. I paused to take a photo between the trees but continued into the thickening woods.

It was a couple of minutes before I noticed the footsteps behind me.
