song of the chapter-
overthinking- acid ghost

~ethan~

"you do understand you're not my dad right?" she says.

"look," i start, "you still got a lot to learn kiddo." i get why she's mad at me for telling people to not go out with her, but she's like my sister, so i have to be protective!

is that the only reason though? no. yes i like her. sorta.. i don't know! ughh!

"ugh! kiddo?!?! oh my god!" she screams.

this makes me smile. just imagining her pacing her room wanting to slap me across the face.

"oh god, if you were here i would beat you with my shoe!"

called it.

"evan is a player.." i start.

"SO ARE YOU!" she interjects.

"and that's why i know he's wrong for you." i say with a frown on my face, knowing she thinks poorly of me.

she huffs and puffs.

"you know, you're gonna thank me one day." i say.

"okay." she starts, "but today is not that day!"

here we go.

"it is not your job to monitor my dating life. do you understand me?! the days of you controlling my life ARE OVER!"

damn.

"we'll see about that." i say, then hang up and get back to my homework.

she was always so cute when she was mad. i liked to mess with her because i just get a kick out of it.

~emma~

today was the day grayson and i presented our idea for the kissing booth to the student council.

last night was a bit of a distraction from my work (which i honestly needed) but i just couldn't get my mind off of it all night.

why does he want me to be single my whole life?! i don't get it, i don't do that with his life, so why monitor mine?

gray and i wait outside the room where the council was approving the dance team's fundraiser idea.

"oh i'm so nervous!" i say, distracting myself from the thoughts of ethan and our conversation last night.

"we have nothing to worry about!" gray reassures me, "this idea will blow the other ones out of the water!"

"i mean people love to kiss right?" he laughs.

"i wouldn't know." i say.

"oh i almost forgot!" i say reaching in my bag, "i made us notecards!"

"seriously em? notecards?" he says.

"just take them! it will help us!"

"fine but if i see something i don't wanna say, i'm not saying it."

"you're so stubborn!" i say, nudging his arm.

"i wonder who i adapted it from." he says, nudging me back.

"emma chamberlain and grayson dolan?" ryder, the council president asks through closed doors.

gray and i walk in and take our stand at the podium in front of the student council.

to our right was olivia, caroline, and amanda. in front of us was the council's heads anna and ryder. then to our left was hunter and trista.

we all know olivia, caroline, and amanda are the most popular girls in school, but anna and ryder were the most respected.

they're brother and sister. well sorta. they were kinda like gray and i. extremely close to where everyone believes they are siblings.

hunter and trista were nobodies. they got bullied a lot. but they didn't seem like they cared. i don't know if they were friends, but they would be great ones.

hunter was the smartest person in this school. he had a 4.0 and received a scholarship early sophomore year to go to an ivy league school. i don't know which one, but that sounds amazing.

trista was also smart, but not as smart as hunter. trista had to have head gear on all the time, not just at night, but at school too. that caused major bullying to happen to her.

"the next proposal is from the art club," anna begins, "emma chamberlain and grayson dolan." she smiles at the word dolan. and i knew the reason why.

"ha! you have an accent." gray says, mimicking anna's british accident.

i stomp on his foot, "ouch!" he whines.

i clear my throat, "and what if your idea for the fundraiser?" she says.

"uuhhh.." i say fidgeting through my flash cards, "sorry haah uuhh.."

anna just gets more impatient by time goes on.

"uh okay! we have an idea that we think everyone would be excited about. but first we want to thank you for your time and that you withhold any-"

"kissing booth!" gray shouts, completely interrupting me.

"yeah we want to do a kissing booth." he says.

i throw my cards on the table and lean on the podium.

in between hunter and trista, and anna and ryder is chauncey and david.

they are two of the many douche bag football players that would love this idea. i can tell because they high five and smile about this situation.

just scanning the room, chauncey, david, anna, and caroline are in.

"okay!" ryder interjects, "i think i speak for everyone when i say kissing is the number one cause of all germs, cavities, shingles, gingivitis, COLD SOURS!"

"ew!" amanda says to caroline.

"it would be totally voluntary!" gray says, "and um, no tongue! because we aren't the french!" everyone starts laughing.

"well most of us." he says gesturing to anna.

"i'm british you wanker!"

"excuse me, but would you be working the booth?" hunter asks me.

"me?!" i say kinda grossed out, "oh no no no we're just the organizers! but i can assure you that we have some real a-listers lined up! you can count on that."

gray looks at me like i'm a crazy person.

"would.. e be working the kissing booth?" amanda asks for the three of them.

"ha! ethan?!" gray says, "eh you'd have a better chance of getting miley cyrus to become a nun if yo-"

"absolutely!" i say hitting grayson's chest, "e, will be working the booth!"

all the girls, including anna and trista get excited.

"i promise you, e will be there." i say.

i let out a sign knowing what i just got myself into.

there's no way that ethan would ever work the booth, let alone be a customer!

this was going to be an adventure, that's for sure.
