Steve - the other soldier (angst-ish)

1942

"There's no time!" Steve shouted over the radio.

He was all alone. On a plane speeding through the sky with bombs on it. He never even got to say 'I love you' to his best girl, Y/n. He regretted never being able to tell her and now he would never get the chance, or so he thought.

In the shadow of the plane Y/n was lurking watching Steve stress. You were in an outfit familiar to Cap's but no sheild, you used a gun instead.

Many people believe Steve to be the first super soldier, but boy are they wrong. When you were 17 you were diagnosed with cancer. In a desperate need of a cure your parents asked SHEILD to test the soldier serum in the early stage of its invention.

It worked but every now and then you need another shot to keep you alive. Steve knew about the cancer, but not about the serum they used on you was the same on him. You would think that you would have a cure for cancer but sadly no. It only worked on you for some reason and killed everyone that was tested.

"Steve." You muttered to the boy you were so helplessly in love with.

"Y/n?! What the hell are you doing here?" He asked worriedly running towards you and pulling you into a hug.

"You shouldn't be here." He said pulling away but still holding you.

"I'm with you till the end of the line. Even now." You told him.

"I'm pretty sure this is the end of the line." He said.

"And here I am." You said.

"What are you wearing?" I asked with a bit of a smile.

"You really thought you were the only super soldier. I was given a serum to cure my cancer at 17. That serum was the first super soldier serum, but I need it once every two months. My orders are to stay back and protect you from afar." You told him.

"Y/n you're going to die." He said solemnly.

"I already am." I said not making eye contact.

He looked at me confused.

"Steve, since Dr Erkinsine died we have no more serum. No more serum means my cancer is coming back. I'm not supposed to live past this week anyway." I told him.

"Remember when you promised me a dance." I said smirking.

"You still owe it to me." I told him

I stepped closer and rested my head in his chest and he laid his head in mine. I started humming to It's Been A Long, Long Time.

We slowly swayed in our dying moments.

"Y/n?" He asked.

"Yes."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"I've loved you for a while. I never believed in love at first sight, until I met you." He told you.
