Shards Under Her Feet

Pritish derogatory remarks started the moment they sat in the car. It kept on becoming worse and worse. But at one point of time during the evening they met some of Pritish’s friends. And they started actively bullying her by asking her to go buy some condoms for Pritish as he would need them in a few days after their marriage. When Pree refused to do any such thing he started to taunt her... 

Pritish: I am a grown man and I have a healthy appetite for night activities. How could a girl like you even think of marrying me if you can't even handle these small things…

Pree: Because I have grown up with men like Anurag Basu, who are not wimps when they need something for their personal needs they can manage to buy those things themselves. 

Pritish came and slapped her hard on the face and started to abuse her profusely. Then his friends and him took her forcefully to a club near the pool and pushed her in the pool, calling her names and screaming and telling her how it was because of the money he got ready to marry her. But Mohini basu was not paying up enough for him to gulp down a invalid slut as a wife. 

Pree was still in the water getting more and more panicked when she found herself lifted up from the depth of water in strong arms and held to the body. She was coughing and spitting, trembling and crying but when she looked at the face holding her aloft in his arms she calmed down but then she closed her eyes in despair and embarrassment. 

When Anurag held Pritish underwater and would have drowned him too Anupam and Pree managed to hold him back. Pritish confessed to being paid to humiliate Prerna and scare her away from marriage and kolkatta both. 

Anurag picked up Prerna and told Anupam to go home, drove himself and Prerna to her parents old home. And then he himself dried her up and then held her up to get her to change. Pree suddenly didnt know what to say when he was about to change her clothes.  She just held on to the big towel and in another hand held his hand…. “Grumpy?”. She could see a blackness rising within him so she understood, in his care and concern for her, he has forgotten that she was his best friend but a girl too.

She patted him on the face lovingly, but he didnt look at her. He walked away from the room without looking at her. She changed into her regular Jammies and then was about to look for her Wheelchair, when Anurag entered with her wheelchair and patted its back pensively. She had handed him some clothes for him too. And he had changed but the look in his eyes was like building up of an upcoming storm.

P.S. "Every single day we are handed so many miracles ...but do we realize them... thats our biggest flaw in living."
