A/N I know there's a couple other stories like this but I really liked the whole recovery idea, so I put my own twists on it...enjoy

Harry’s POV

I was practically vibrating, I was shaking so hard.

I’d met the boys before, several times, but this was the day that they would decide whether or not to let me into the band.

I liked all of the boys, well, most of them. Liam, Zayn and Niall were friendly, but Louis… I never really knew. He barely acknowledged my presence, staring off into space most of the time. He must have agreed to consider adding me into the band because Liam had said ‘all the lads’ wanted me.

“Hello, Harry! How are you?” Niall asked cheerily as he strolled into the conference room. The management team hadn’t arrived yet, but I had been so nervous that I had arrived a half hour early.

“Nervous,” I admitted.

“Don’t worry. You’re an amazing singer, and everyone likes you,” Niall said reassuringly.

I must have looked doubtful because Niall sighed, “Listen, Louis may seem kinda emotionless and not entirely there most of the time, but I think it’ll be good to have a change. He hasn’t objected to you.”

The door opened again and Liam and Zayn walked in.

“Hello, lads!” Liam greeted, and Zayn followed suit.

“Hello,” I mumbled shyly.

Meeting the boys before had just been us hanging out and not really anything official. It had been Niall that found me. We’d both been at a bar on the same night, and I had been drunkenly singing karaoke. Niall had pulled me outside, intrigued. We’d gotten to know each other, and after meeting up a few times after that night, Niall had introduced me to Liam and Zayn. I hadn’t actually met Louis until I had met their management.

It had also been Niall to propose the idea of them singing with me. It had been a joke at first, but we found out quickly that I actually sounded pretty good with them. Then I had met Simon, who had suggested that I meet the management team. Then one thing had led to another and now I was waiting to see if I would be allowed to join a world famous boy band.

“Nervous?” Liam asked.

“Yeah,” I said, smiling slightly.

“Don’t be. It’ll obviously be yes. You’re just what One Direction needs to shake things up a bit,” Liam said calmly.

Louis walked in. As usual, he looked tired and sad. I inwardly winced.

The death of his long-time girlfriend, Aubrey, seven months prior, had really hit Louis hard. Since then, he’d lost a pretty decent amount of weight and always had dark circles ringing his bloodshot eyes and pale face. His hair hung limply in his face like his clothes did on his body.

“Hey, Lou,” Liam said warmly.

Louis glanced at him, and then looked at me. His sharp blue eyes drilled into my green ones.

“So. You’re really being added in?” Louis asked.

“H-hopefully,” I stammered. Louis nodded absently. He sat down and began his usual staring into space. It was the first time he had truly acknowledged and spoken more than one word to me and it was slightly intimidating.

“You could make an effort to be friendlier, Louis,” Liam sighed. Louis glared at him, but didn’t say another word

It was uncomfortably quiet then. Niall suddenly stood and started doing an Irish jig. I stared at him.
