Morning

Cory's shirt was the first thing I found, so I slipped it on. He was still sleeping. I didn't want to wake him. He looked so peaceful.

I walked down the hallway this morning still drowsy from last night, warmed by the large, gray tee that Cory had been wearing when he got home. I grabbed the neck with my left hand, lifting it up to my face. It smelled like he did: woodsy, with a little hint of mid-day sweat.

I noticed one of my many, many hair ties on the carpeted floor between the base of the wall and my foot. I picked it up and pulled my hair into an unbrushed, quick messy bun so that I wouldn't get any of my long hair in my breakfast.

When I reached the kitchen, I grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and then a spoon. I started singing to myself as I reached into the top of the pantry for the cereal and then poured some into my bowl. As I opened the fridge for the milk, I saw Cory standing in the corner of the kitchen, leaning against the wall, with his arms crossed and a slight smile on his face.

I turned back to my bowl so I could pour in the milk. "How long have you been standing there?" I asked him, hiding a slight smile of embarrassment.

Instead of an answer, I heard his footfalls come toward me and his arms came around my waist, encasing me in not only the scent of him but his warmth as well. He buried his chin in between my shoulder and the front of my neck and whispered into my ear. "God, you're beautiful in the mornings. How could I have lived so long without you before we met?" He breathed into my hair and I felt his arms reach under his shirt to my waist. He leaned down and kissed the back of my neck, slow and lazy.

"Stop it," I said, pretending to be mad, "you're going to distract me and I'm going to spill milk all over the place!"

"Mmm that's okay, babe. Spill all the milk you want." I felt his heart beat through the back of his shirt and his soft breaths next to my head. I was smiling like crazy by now, because I knew what was coming next. And I welcomed the idea of it.

His hands moved up my body, from my stomach to my ribcage. "Mmmm I thought you would still be asleep when I woke up," he yawned. "I could go back to bed right now, even." I could feel him through the thin fabric of only his boxers and the shirt that was only so long.

"Yeah, I'm sure you could. You didn't just pour a bowl of cereal you now have to eat quickly before it gets soggy, mister!" I playfully reached around and poked him in the side.

Cory lifted up his head and turned to look at me, although all he saw was probably a very close look at the side of my head. His nose was only a few inches from my cheek. "You know, you don't have to eat that," he growled. His breath was warm on my cheek. I smiled. Here it comes, I thought. His hands kept moving up my sides.

"Baby, come back to bed with me," he said. He tugged on his shirt, pulling it over my head. "Please?" He spun me around so that I was facing him, his arms now wrapped around the small of my back, our bare stomachs now touching and our faces only a hare's breadth apart.

Still trying to keep up the facade, I pleaded one more time. "My cereal's getting soggy," I tried to whine through my smile and flaming blush.

"What cereal?" He mumbled into my lips and then leaned in to follow his words to my lips, parting them with his and kissing me long and slow.
