George and Luca

"WHAT?!" I snapped.

My friends all looked at me with weird expressions on their faces.

I gave them an apologetic smile.

I excused myself from the group and asked for a five-minute break.

I sat on the bench, finally felt the heat of the summer sun. This season is extremely different from the past summer. The sun rays are more vibrant and vivid.

Sweat rolled from my cheeks. I wiped my face harshly with the towel and threw it back on top of my gym bag.

I messed my hair when I heard Luca's voice from the other line. I almost broke my phone when he asked me something illegal.

And when I say illegal...

It has something to do with...

"SHOPPING? YOU CRAZY? YOU KNOW I HATE THOSE KIND OF STUFF. I CAN'T ACCOMPANY YOU THIS TIME. I'VE GOT A BASEBALL PLAY RIGHT NOW!"

Why am I even shouting?

"Oh, come on. It's for my Mom, you dope. It's her birthday. I need to find something great for her. And here I am thinking that you love my Mom?"

I scratched the tip of my hair. I almost forgot Aunt Annie's birthday. She's so dear to me and someone whom I valued dearly aside from my father. My mother, Carol Muse, and Aunt Annie Perez were best friends. When my mother died from heart failure, she was there and acted like a mother to me.

There were certain times of my life when my Dad and I disagreed on some topics and decisions about me, she was there and gave me words of wisdom and encouragement like what mothers do.

And this guy that I'm talking right now on the phone is no other than his son, Luca Perez.

Luca is my childhood friend. We grew up together. We were childhood playmates and we always have each others back.

However...

When I reached senior year,

There's something about me that has changed.

Whenever I see him, I always get this weird troublesome heart beatings. My heart goes stupid and crazy fast and loud each time he's near and close to me.

He's a great person. He has this charm around him that makes everyone be his friend. He has a bad sense of humor yet I find it so adorable and cute. He always has a heart to help and a considerate mind.

I saw him grew up. I was there and witnessed his life.

I promised that I will be his friend forever. That I will always be someone who will support him in everything that he does in his life. I vowed that I'll be his best friend no matter what.

But who would've thought that I will break that promise.

I don't want to be his friend...forever.

It's because...

I love him.

All these times...

My eyes were on him.

Always on him.

But...

He can't look my way.

We always stand on the same ground but we never see the same thing.

I decided that I'll just be that friend who will always support him through thick and thin.

Whether if I need to see him with someone else.

His happiness is what matters most.

"Fine. Fine. I'll be there. Send me the location." I said in defeat.
