The moth sign had went well.
Mudfur was more than happy to finally shove the fact Mothpaw could be his official apprentice into his daughter's, Leopardstar's, face.
You could still remember his smug, "I told you so," and her annoyed, "quiet, before I decide to go against StarClan's wishes."
Tonight had been half-moon night, also known as the medicine cat's time to meet up. Hawkfrost didn't want to sleep tonight, seeing as his sister was either gonna get approved by StarClan or kicked out despite all the effort they had went through.
And well, with Hawkfrost's anxious pacing around the warrior's den, you didn't get to sleep much either. Stormfur and Feathertail were snoozing next to you, completely unbothered. Damn, you wished you didn't have as light of a sleep sometimes as you did.
Hawkfrost's anxiety was rubbing off on you.The dark brown tabby stopped pacing and his ears perked up.
"They coming?" You asked, yawning. Yeah, you couldn't sleep, but that didn't mean you weren't tired at all. You wondered how Hawkfrost could always just look like he had just gotten eight healthy hours of sleep. The warrior looked behind himself towards you, and his ears twitched again. "Guess so," he muttered, and he cooly walked over to the entrance, where indeed his sister and Mudfur were coming through.
You stood up as well, trying not to disturb Stormfur, who was resting his head on your shoulder, too much as you got up and joined your friend by the entrance of camp.
Mudfur apparently had better things to do, as he quickly trotted away to the leader's den with a worried gaze. Wonder what's up with that, huh.
Mothpaw seemed more confused than worried. Her brother nudged her affectionately on the cheek as a greeting, you stayed a bit at distance... considering the look she was giving, something might have gone wrong.
"Hi, Mothpaw," you greeted her in a neutral tone, "...how... how'd it go?"The golden tabby sort of pushed her brother off of herself, and her ears perked up at the question. "Oh, it- went alright!" She meowed, and a wave of relief washed over you.
Wait, then why was she-"My name's Mothwing now." The molly informed you, and her brother stepped a little away to give her some personal space. Hawkfrost's ears perked up, and he gave a small nod of approval.
"Mothwing?" You echoed. "That's a nice name! Fits too..." You smirked a little smugly, referring to the fake sign.
Hawkfrost had put it there, since you couldn't find a moth and Mothpaw- well if she was caught with one it'd all be over."Well- yeah, yeah fits..." Mothwing shook her head, and she looked over to the leader's den. "That's not important right now. We- well, we passed the fourtrees and..."
She stayed silent for a few moments.
"And?" Hawkfrost inquired. "What's more important? We went through all this trouble, did you see an omen or something?""Not an omen, but-"
"All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under the high branch!"
Leopardstar's loud voice interrupted the new medicine cat, and you turned to look at your leader.
"What is it?" You whispered to your friends, but Hawkfrost just gave a shrug. Mothwing gulped nervously, you guessed that's what she had been wanting to tell you.The three of you gathered where the leader had told you to, and you looked up at Leopardstar. Her usual cool glare was a bit obstructed by her eyebrow twitching.
She waited a few more moments for warriors to gather until she spoke."Cats of RiverClan! I have just been informed by our medicine cat Mudfur that something horrid has happened." The leader spoke. Quiet whispers were exchanged between cats.
You glanced over at Mothwing, and her ears flattened slightly. This had nothing to do with the fake sign, hopefully...?
"The fourtrees are gone!"The what-?
Oh.
You almost forgot what they even were as you worried about Mothwing.
...wait.
The fourtrees?
Gone?
No, that couldn't be."Gone?" Hawkfrost repeated, and he looked down at his sister. He almost looked angry, but you could tell he was just as confused as you were.
Mothwing nodded weakly. "Y-yeah... Mudfur and I stopped near them when we saw a bunch of twolegs and really big monsters... w-we couldn't do anything..."
"I don't expect you to take on gigantic monsters," you reassured Mothwing, and placed a paw on her shoulder to comfort her, "...but why would the twolegs do that...?""ThunderClan and WindClan have already made up their minds. This is a sign that the clans must leave the forest." Leopardstar huffed.
Mothwing's whiskers shuddered. "I don't get why... it's just... trees..."
"Well, they stand for the clans." You argued. "StarClan's symbol for it at least... if StarClan is letting twolegs tear it down... I don't know what that means for the clans.""Why do they want to leave? There's plenty of prey in the forest! Some trees going down can't chase us off!"
You didn't know whose voice that had been, but... you sort of agreed? The forest was fine... why would StarClan do this?Leopardstar shook her head. "I do not know. ThunderClan has always been the first to abandon ship when things look slightly wrong." She scoffed.
You scoffed along.
"Leopardstar!"
A new voice now called out.
You looked towards the entrance, Blackclaw and the night patrol had returned.
"ThunderClan wants to see you."
