Every minute seems to be getting more miserable and miserable. Even the sky seems to be getting darker but, I know that has much to do with the sun leaving our view. Everyday in a month, except one where the sun comes out, is spent in complete darkness. When the sun does come out, it powers air filters that cleanse our air, good enough for us to go outside. The rest of the days when the sun is away and, the filters are off, we have to stay inside our houses because the air is too diseased to breathe.
Our house, is made from concrete and steel. For the rich people, living in the Wallston community, there houses are made from glass and steel. And for the people living in the SePoo community, there houses are made from stone and, copper. To be clear, there are three community's in Tri-unce: Wallston, the wealthy, SePoo, the equal and Pluta, the poor.
Being apart of the Pluta community is very depressing but I feel even more gloomy than usual. In fact, everyone in my family seems to be gloomier than usual. This is because of my grandmother. She passed away three days ago in her old age home.
We did not get to see her either. The home placed her in a closed casket before we could make it there. I can not express my sadness. We only got to visit poor Grandma June once a month. We all knew Grandma June was very sick but none of us could have predicated this. To me it would have seemed that my grandma had more life to live.
I have been very curious lately. Many other old age people have died in a span of 6 weeks but, there is no proof of anything other than death. I hear my mother calling from the kitchen now,
"Elasia dear, dinner is ready, please get your brother from his room."
I slowly get up from our comfy, leather couch and, walk to my brother, Vince's room. It is technically not his room being that he shares the room with me but, my mother likes to call it his room to boost his happiness.
I appear in the doorway but, Vince is too distracted to notice i'm there.
"Vince," I shout "dinner is ready, mom wants us in the kitchen."
Vince removes his headphones from his ears and, glances up at me.
"Do you know what is for dinner?"
"I do not, why don't you get up and see for yourself," I say with slight annoyance.
"Aw, fine," he says.
We both leave "his" room and, go to the kitchen. I see straight away that we are having potatoes with left over pork. There isn't much of a variety in the food we eat at home. Most of what we eat are potatoes, pork, beef, green beans, bread on occasions and, cabbage. This is all we can afford.
"Ugh, pork again," Vince groans.
"Yes," mother says "it's all your father and I can afford right now. Oh and speaking of your father, Elasia do you mind getting him from the basement?"
"Sure," I say in between swallowing some potatoes.
As I walk out the kitchen, I can hear my brother complaining,
"Ew, this pork is the color of Elasia's hair!"
My hair is chin length and a dark aqua green color at the tips but, the rest of it is a ordinary light brown. I believe he was referring to the green, when he was speaking of the pork.
I make my way through the family room and into the hallway that leads to the basement door. I open it, making its usual creaking noise and jump over three stairs to the slightly lowered basement floor. My dad realizes i'm there as soon as I set my feet on the ground. He says my presence is always noticeable.
"Hey Crumb-cake, did your mother send you down here to get me for dinner?"
"Yeah, but if you knew she was gonna make me come get you, why didn't you just come up?"
"Well maybe I just wanted to have a conversation with my lovely daughter."
I smile and we walk up the stairs. He always knows how to make me smile even if it's only for a little.
