Facing the Facts

My hatred for my older brothers continues to grow as another rap song plays. They know that there are only a few types of music I don't like and don't want to listen to and this is one of them. The only other kind is zydeco music, I just couldn't get over the weird instruments the musicians used. I have nothing against the players,  I just didn't care for the music when we had to visit and oversee a pack in Louisiana a few years ago.

I'm hunched over in my chair, using my index and middle fingers to rub my temples as I feel my headache growing. I unintentionally start to grit my teeth only to snap my head up when I feel someone shaking my hair.

"Come on sis, lighten up. It's just music after all," my middle brother Jerome says with a smirk in his voice. "I thought you liked music and didn't judge," he continues to press.

Turning my head around I give him a fierce glare, "You know what music I like and don't like! All of you do yet you are intentionally trying to get me in a bad mood before the conference," I snap at the three of them.

The only way this card ride could be any worse was if Alaric was traveling with us. Thankfully, the Alpha and his family travel in their own vehicle with a few guards. Alaric is known to get very angry during car rides when it comes to music. Thank the goddess ranked families each have their own vehicle.

They all look down in shame knowing they've pushed me too far this time. All that I can see of their faces is their chins, the rest hidden by dark brown hair matching my fathers.

The music stops abruptly as Oscar, my oldest brother, pulls the AUX cord out of his phone. Knowing better than to try my patience again, all three decided to focus on their phones rather than music.

Facing towards the front window, I lean my seat back slightly and being to think about what will happen at the conference. Our pack is well known, but not in a good way. We are seen as a very passive pack who doesn't like to stand up for themselves. Even though that is how everyone views us, the truth is that we simply do not join any wars or conflicts other packs cause.

The rumors may be different this year considering what happened last year. I internally cringe just thinking about how I behaved. Shame filling me as I think about how I attacked a member of another pack in a fit of rage. Definitely not going to have a repeat of that this year.

I pull out a teal paper folder and begin to sort through the various papers. Land, fights, mates, housing, and many other topics are labeled at the top of the papers. I decide to pull up the papers about mates first. All the mate and matching duties were dumped on to me since I'm the only daughter of the Beta and our Luna has other tasks she sees to.

The first page shows a middle aged man with black and greying hair. He's wearing a simple white shirt with a muscular build but looks as if something is bothering him. Curiosity peaked, I chose to read about him.

Ian Walker
Age - 47
Status - mateless
Duty - guard trainer
Location - West valley, Wild River Pack

- Mr. Walker never found his mate and spent 3 years traveling to each pack in the United States and its territories looking for her. He is a straight male, hard working, and keeps busy with training each wolf properly. He works out in his free time to make sure he is as fit as those he is in charge of. He has traveled to a few other countries in search of his mate but has had no luck. His company is enjoyed by many in the pack and he is seen as a usually cheerful man.

Statement - "Miss Beta, I have spent my entire life looking for my mate. I never found her, even when traveling so far away to other countries and across our own. I do not believe I have a mate, I do not think our goddess ever destined me to be with someone. I come to you and ask, please pair me with a she-wolf. I do not need pups, but I do not wish to spend the rest of my life alone or only training pups to become stronger. I wish to be able to devote myself to someone and be able to spend my free time making her happy. Thank you Miss."
