CRITIQUE PAPER ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY: AMBASSADOR OF THE JUNGLE

This documentary is very interesting to watch it is a very good topic because everyone has its own practices and culture, it is important for us to know other culture how they differ from ours and how to respect them.

By having cultural relativism, or the ability to fully understand another culture at large in this documentary, I can say that the primitive culture of the people in the Papua New Guinea remain alive this days. In the world that practically lives under Western influence and modernization their own customs and tradition are proudly working in the present.

The inhabitants of the highlands have the colorful body painting, and they participate in rituals they called "sing sing" in which the Asaro people sing and dance together, there is also the mud men trying to keep their enemies away by wearing terrifying creature like gray mask made of mud, and lastly the "enga mummies" of Kukukuku, the dead bodies of warriors who were smoked and preserved over months.

And on the lowlands or the civilization near the Sepik river, you can find the vivacious nature of the region and how they worship crocodile, the sacred being from which they seek the possession of their spirit through frenzied rites and painful scars tattoos they do in their bodies as an imitation of the greatness of the reptile skin.

The customs and tradition that this society has is their identity, it represents the purest form of human identity with natural way of evolving. Yes, they do have the practice of cannibalism that to some culture are prohibited or forbidden. But I believe that there is no superior and inferior culture in the world. Each culture has its own good and bad doings, but culture can be shared, take what you think is good for you, learn from it and adopt what you think makes your life better.

Let them practice primitive culture and lifestyle, let them slowly grow and adopt without deforming their own culture.
