There's thirteen days left until Valentine's Day, which has always been my least favorite holiday. At my old school, there was always some kind of dance. Of course, I never went because no one has ever asked me out before and I didn't exactly have friends to go with.

Maybe this year will be different though. After all, even if I didn't have a date, I would just go with Zoey and Chloe.

The bell rings and I snap out of my thoughts. Finally, it's lunch time! I quickly race out of the classroom and go to my locker. As I am about to grab my lunch bag, I hear a snicker coming from behind.

"If it isn't Nikki Maxwell."

"MacKenzie." I close my locker and try to walk past her.

"What's in the bag? Bugs?" She laughs.

"Unlike you, MacKenzie, I actually have friends who are waiting for me."

"Have you gotten a date to the Valentine's Day dance yet?" She asks, ignoring my comment.

"Why do you care?" I grit my teeth, trying my best to be the better person.

"Looks like you don't. How sad but then again, who would ever ask out a girl like you?"

"Whatever." I roll my eyes. "Not like you have a date either."

"Not yet. But it's about time Brandon asks me out." She flips her hair.

A surge of jealousy rushes through my body. Part of me wanted to let MacKenzie have it but the other part of me knew that's what she wanted.

"If you say so." I push past her and walk to the cafeteria.

Ugh, sometimes she can really get on my nerves.

"Nikki! Over here!" I look to see Zoey and Chloe waving their hands at me.

"What took you so long?" Chloe asks as I sit down.

"Just another day stuck with having the locker next to MacKenzie's."

"What did she say this time?"

"Just bothering me about the Valentine's Day dance." I say as I bite into my sandwich. I look up to see Zoey and Chloe looking at me nervously.

"Why are you guys looking at me like that?"

"We don't want to rub it in, but Theo asked me to the dance and Marcus asked Chloe."

"That's great! I'm so happy for you guys!" I say, but deep down, I'm upset that my friends have dates and I don't.

"We won't go with them if you don't want us too." Chloe says.

"Why would I do that? Both of you guys deserve to go out with them!"

"Do you mean it?" Zoey asked nervously.

"Yes, if you guys don't go out with them I will literally not talk to you both for a week!"

"Ahh! You are the best!" They get out of their seats to hug me. "But what about you?"

"I'll be fine, I mean it. I didn't really feel like going to the dance anyways." I say, sounding very calm about it.

"Well, if you say so." They say, sounding a bit hesitant.

Luckily for me, before they were able to say anything else, the bell rang.

"I'll see you guys later!" I say, starting to walk in the direction of my next class.

Is there a chance that Brandon will ask me out instead of MacKenzie?
