I didn't get much sleep that night. After escaping from the bathroom, I bolted into my room and waited for what seemed like hours until emerging again. I had the quickest shower I'd ever taken in my life, brushed my teeth, and literally ran back to bed. My dreams were haunted by green eyes and goldfish. Believe me, I wish I could control my dreams, all sorts of weird shit enters my brain when I'm sleeping.
When I woke up the next day, I felt just as dead as the night before. Dark circles were ingrained under my eyes and my skin looked ghostly pale. Nothing a bit of concealer and foundation couldn't fix though. Making myself look presentable, I chose a pretty green floral dress that accentuated my hazel eyes, and chose to leave my hair down. AHHHHHHHH I'M NOT READY FOR THIS, WHAT IF HE'S DOWN THERE? I CAN'T FACE HIM?AFTER LAST NIGHT! But sense chirped in, suggesting that he probably wasn't even in the house, after all, Flo had mentioned earlier that he always missed breakfast.
And with that sense of hope pulsing through my body, I made my way downstairs to the kitchen. I hummed a song underneath my breath, something I do when I'm nervous, but immediately stopped when I waked into the kitchen. It had been transformed into a banquet hall. The table was laden with plates of fluffy pancakes, bowls of exotic fruit, and platters of crispy bacon with eggs. It all looked amazing. Flo was frying some mushrooms, singing along to the radio and doing a little tap dance of some sort. Her hair was scooped back into a bun, and her face was alive with joy.
"Girls, come and set the table please," she shouted in the direction of the playroom.
Two small girls immediately came running in, both laughing with glee when their eyes landed upon the feast in front of them. They looked younger than 11, both with dark brown hair and big blue eyes. Honestly they were stunning and definitely going to grow up to be heartbreakers.I started walking towards Flo, making my presence known with a casual "morning".
" Morning Violet," Flo sung joyfully, " we've just about finished, so grab a plate and help yourself."
One of the girls walked towards me, handing me a plate decorated with miniature Olafs around it's border. " Here, you can have my plate. Daddy says I should start acting more grown up if I want to succeed in life." She sniffled sadly, all traces of her earlier happiness dissolved.
" But we don't listen to daddy when he says things like that do we Rowan?" Flo uttered sweetly, walking around to give Rowan a squeeze on her petite shoulders. " Anyway, it's about time you were all properly introduced. Violet this is Rowan and Alana," she continued, pointing to each girl when she spoke their names.
" It's nice to meet you both, I'm Violet, as I'm sure you already know," I laughed, trying to appear as friendly as possible. However, my laugh came to an abrupt end when I noticed the shirt that Alana was wearing. It was an oversized white Tee with the slogan, 'Nice legs, what time do they open?'plastered along the front. I'm guessing that it belonged to her brother. Flo's reaction was priceless. As soon as she saw it, she screamed Kai's name at the top of her voice, waiting for him to explain himself.
She was furious. Her face was flushed and she started washing up the frying pan extremely aggressively.
The sound of footsteps descending was enough to make me want to hide in the shadows, this was gonna be interesting. I quickly moved over to stand beside Flo, getting a good view of the kitchen entrance.
"Jesus, what is it with the females in this house always shouting?" Kai questioned as he strolled into the kitchen.
He was only wearing a pair of grey sweatpants that hung low enough on his hips to expose a cross tattoo. He certainly didn't strike me as the religious type. As soon as he entered, his eyes raked over my body, letting out a small chuckle as though he was reliving last night.
" So I'm guessing this is about me and her..." he started, nodding his head towards me and letting the sentence hang in the air whilst he grabbed a pancake and started eating it.
" What? No, this is about the disgusting piece of clothing your poor sister is wearing today!" Flo exclaimed, waving the knife she was currently washing so that it's point was directed at Kai. "Why don't you take a look?" she insisted.
Kai accepted her invitation, walking around so that he could clearly see Alana's shirt. As soon as he laid eyes on it, he erupted into a fit of laughter. He started banging his fist against the table, as he howled with amusement. However, all I could hear was Flo's disapproving tuts.
" Alana, would you please go your room and find another top to wear. Rowan, why don't you go and help her pick something out?" She suggested, obviously eager to get them out the way before going in on Kai.
The girls looked up from their half eaten breakfasts on the table, gazing wistfully at the pancakes they hadn't finished, but upon seeing Flo's face, they obediently stood up and left the kitchen. As soon as Flo saw they were out of sight, she turned her attention back to Kai.
" I don't find this very funny Kai."
" Hey, before you start abusing me, just know that it isn't even mine. Ethan must've left it when he stayed over." Kai explained, holding his hands up in an innocent surrender.
" I don't care who it belongs to Kai. What if I hadn't noticed it? What if she'd gone out to Tina's party wearing that..." Flo looked lost for words, " revolting garment?"
At this comment, Kai was literally crying with laughter.
I didn't know what to do, I wanted to look stern so that I could support Flo, but I was trying so hard not to laugh with Kai. I had to subtly put my hand over my mouth to hide my smile.
"Get rid of it, before I burn it." She warned firmly, obviously seeing that she was fighting a losing battle.
Kai just chuckled, sending her a sarcastic army salute. He then proceeded to walk out the kitchen, sending me a glance before he exited.I picked up an apple from the fruit bowl, regretting it immediately, for the only sound you could hear was of me eating. Flo stared off into the distance for a few minutes, deep in thought. I started piling some bacon onto my plate, the sound of my fork scratching against the plate breaking her out of her trance.
" What did he mean?" She enquired inquisitively, her body turning so that she was facing me.
" About what?"
"When he came down, he assumed that it was because of something that happened between you two," she finished.
Well this was was awkward. I didn't know how to summarise last nights shower event without it sounding dodgy. Well Flo, I walked in on Kai taking a shower, he thought I was a prostitute, and asked if I wanted to fuck. How on Earth was I meant to phrase that?
" Did something happen?" She continued, by the way she said 'something', you could tell what she was insinuating.
" WHAT! No. Absolutely not!"
" It's nothing to be ashamed of sweetheart, you're a beautiful girl, and what was Rowan saying to me, ah yes, you're here for a good time, not a long time, so by all means..."
" Flo, nothing happened. It was all just a big misunderstanding."
" So that's what you youngsters call it these days?" She winked at me. Upon seeing my shocked face, she started hysterically laughing.
" I'm just messing with you Violet. You should've seen your face," she wheezed, clapping her hands like a seal.
" I can tell you're not the type. You're not like his usuals," she continued," you'll make him work for it first."
" FLO!" I shouted, a slight blush creeping over my cheeks.
She gave me a knowing look, before shuffling off to clean the plates from the table, chortling to herself as she went.
