Chapter 7

Jonathan, Nancy and Elizabeth snuck back into the station to grab their box of supplies along with a fire extinguisher before heading back to his house. When they arrived, they got to work with the plan. Jonathan and Nancy started replacing the bulbs in the lights that were strung about the house while Elizabeth nailed the bear trap to the floor in the hall. Nancy made sure her gun was loaded when Jonathan entered the room with a bat with nails sticking out of it. This whole thing was still very surprising for Elizabeth. She didn't know how her friends were able to come up with such an elaborate plan. It was kind of impressive.

She shook her head pulling up her hair with her spare scrunchy and poured gasoline down the hall leading to the trap they had set. Nancy set up the yoyo on a chair that would help them detect movement and then joined the other two in the living room.

Jonathan handed them each a knife. "Remember ..."

"Straight into Will's room." Nancy said resting the blade against her palm.

"Please don't step on the trap," Elizabeth added.

"Wait for the yoyo to move."

Jonathan placed the blade against his palm. "All right then. You ready? On three."

"Three," Elizabeth said impatiently cutting into her palm. The others didn't hesitate as they pressed the blade into their hands.

Blood dripped from the three of them onto the floor leaving stains on the carpet. Nancy grabbed the bandages handing some to Elizabeth before wrapping her own hand. Elizabeth watched as Nancy helped Jonathan with his. There had to be something going on with them. She was sensing weird vibes from both. Maybe a bond through shared trauma?

A faint creaking noise drew their attention. All of them were immediately on high alert. "It's just the wind," Jonathan said trying to comfort Nancy. The nervous look didn't drop from her face. "Don't worry. My mom, she said the lights speak when it comes."

Elizabeth raised her brow. She was way out of the loop when it came to how Joyce was doing. She did say she had communicated with Will. She was guessing it was done through the lights. "She said what?"

"Blink," he said stuttering. "Think of them as alarms."

Nancy finished wrapping Jonathan's hand and Elizabeth watched as their fingers lingered on each other. Elizabeth pursed her lips and looked away. It was none of her business. All three of them jumped at a loud banging on the front door. They paused.

"Jonathan!"

Elizabeth's stomach dropped. Steve was the last person they needed here right now. She walked to the window to try and get a view of him. She could barely make out his silhouette at the door.

"Are you there, man," he continued to call out as he banged on the door. "It's Steve! Listen, I just wanna talk!"

Nancy stormed to the door and opened it a little bit. "Steve listen to me."
