The Celestial Twins have come to the very soil of where Yggdrasil is in a special check-up. It was feared that if Yggdrasil becomes corrupted with Hypogean filth, Esperia's doom will only draw closer with no hopes to see the light of day again.
"It's so peaceful here, don't you think?" Lailah asked.
"Yes. Very peaceful, indeed," Elijah answered Lailah with a smile.
"Elijah... I... I want to tell you something."
"Yes, Lailah?"
Lailah can only look down on her own toes, blushing heavily.
"I..." she muttered. She can only whisper the words she wanted to say to Elijah, but unfortunately, Elijah cannot make sense from the muffled statement.
Elijah finally asked, "What is it?"
Elijah held Lailah's wrists and caressed them softly. Elijah hopes to calm Lailah down as he thinks Lailah is troubled.
"It's nothing! It's nothing!" Lailah repeatedly said out loud. Lailah's fists clenched together in reaction.
Elijah is not very sure why Lailah is acting this way. Perhaps it may be about an accident which Lailah had committed. Either way, he himself is sure to forgive Lailah for whatever wrong Lailah may have caused.
"If something is troubling you, I'm here for you. Okay?" says Elijah, "I will never be mad at you, dear."
Lailah fell silent, her emotions already shouting from within her heart, but this time again, she held herself back. Forbidden love... I cannot be bested by it, she thought.
"I'm fine, Elijah. Do not worry too much. I just... l-love you... I mean... yeah." Lailah would say, a little bit embarrassed.
Elijah can only giggle at the cute Lailah.
"I love you too, Lailah. We're twins, after all," Elijah replied.
Lailah's heart stung with a little bit of pain upon hearing this reply from Elijah. Lailah loves Elijah more than being siblings. She is filled with hope that Elijah will soon realize the truth without her saying a single word about it. Even a celestial's heart is fickle. They tend to act on emotion rather than being able to think about it first.
"Y-Yes... I know."
Lailah closed her eyes with a smile. She is thankful that Elijah does love her as a sister. She would not have it the other way around.
Lailah, then, reminded Elijah, "Let's look around the trunk of the Yggdrasil."
"Yes!" agreed Elijah, "We need to make sure there is not a single part of the lovely tree that is corrupted. Even if the watchers of the forest are constantly in check with it, it's still our job to double check."
And thus, the twins joyfully conducted their mission. Along the way, they praised nature for its beauty. Then, Lailah saw a beautiful flower with dark blue petals. This reminded her how beautiful a flower can be in bloom. She even related a flower's bloom as a measure to how she loves Elijah, but Elijah only saw it as normal. The disappointed Lailah is still hopeful that Elijah will take notice of her greater love.
After checking all of Yggdrasil, Elijah announced that the tree of life is safe.
"That's amazing, then! I am glad," Lailah exclaimed.
"It is indeed good news. Let us return to our dwelling place, dear."
"Of course, Elijah," Lailah responded, then muttered silently to herself, "My love..."
When Elijah gently held Lailah's hand, Lailah smiled uncontrollably. She felt like there were butterflies in her own stomach. She held Elijah's hands tightly, then firmly fondled with his fingers. Eventually, they locked their fingers together.
They both ascended to heaven in a flash right after they gave each other a nod and a smile.
