The fire continues to run through the night keeping me warm until about 6:34AM when the wind picks up. I stay asleep until about 8:20AM and then I clean up my area and pack up for today's adventures. Rufus seems excited and luckily he stays quiet. I go farther into the woods and I was walking for hours and i already had drunk up three of my water bottles and I ate half of my pack of cheese crackers and Rufus ate all of his food over night!
While walking I took a few breaks because I didn't have much energy after sleeping on the ground all night and my small amount of food so I had to balance what I had eaten until I found a house, i walk and walk and I snack on about ten blueberries then put them back to save food. When it reaches about 6:00PM i sit down against a nearby tree and read, I pull out Rufus’s bowl and i give him some water, he’s drinking it so fast i think he well deserved it. I read my book and for about an hour and then put it away and then I unzip my bag to pull out my flashlight to walk a bit more.
I was walking uphill with rufus and he falls, i had to throw my bag down the steep hill and hang on to the tree next to me. “I'm coming little guy!” I yell and i try to hang on to something on the mountain but its way to muddy underneath the thin layer of grass so i fall down the hill landing far from Rufus and my bag due the mudslide i'm all scratched up because of the rocks sticking out of the hill and i can't see because i lost my flashlight. “Rufus! Ruuuufusss! RUFUSSSS!” I yell louder and louder.
I hear nothing. I collapse on the ground crying and all of a sudden I hear a rustle in the leaves… I see bright glowing i eyes im sitting here terrified but hopeful its Rufus, I don't know whether or not to run away from a possible bear or maybe Rufus. I stay hopeful and i see… a deer? A sigh of relief flows through me, i thought i was about to die or find my furry baby. I walk around the huge hill and i still have yet to find him i sit down, knees to my chest all curled up and I cried myself to sleep.
Morning dawns on me, I wake up in a whole new position, my back lies across the forest floor. Im covered in mud and when i sit up i realize Rufus is still gone. I get up and I find a less steep hill thats all grass and it brings me to a small stony road with a few cottages. I smell bacon and eggs and syrup, which means...PANCAKES!. I run over to the first cottage and I knock on the door. An older lady answers, she's about 5’3, faded blonde hair, circular glasses and she's wearing a robe.
“Hello, have you seen my dog Rufus and your food smells good!” I say and she replies in the softest sweetest tone “Hello darling, is this your dog?” she turns around and points her palm towards my Rufus. “RUFUSSS!” I scream and run in. I hope she doesn't mind me or Rufus’s mud prints. Rufus was eating out of a dog bowl that's named “Ally” and my heart plummets. Immediately know she loves dogs and that we got lucky considering she had Rufus.
