Monopoly nights

So, I wrote this at some point before the mid season finale, I'm not sure when but it's pretty general so no spoilers I don't think. I'm pretty sure I wrote it after the one that he uses the phone in the woods and said something about 'the Emma button'. Anyway,  enjoy!

A vacation. That's all they needed, a decent holiday. It wasn't as if they couldn't leave; to be fair, they were the only ones who could.

Emma sighed and sat back in her chair. The station had seen better days, of course, but since the snow monster and ice wall - which was down and thoroughly melted thanks to Regina and Gold - things had been a little hectic and filing was the last thing on Emma's mind.

Another call came through. Emma let it ring. No doubt it was another call of a possible 'snow attack'. No, in reality the past eight calls she'd had were actually Storeybrooke residents panicking because they thought the snow monster was back. In actual fact, they'd just left a window open and caught a chill.

"Sheriff Swan" she said into the phone, taking on her official tone.

"Ah, so this communication device does work without magic!" Killian's voice sounded through the phone. No, his voice came shouting through the phone. Emma pulled the phone away from her ear at the sudden noise. She was glad it was him though - she wasn't sure she could deal with another broken radiator/snow monster attack.

"You don't have to shout" she chuckled, moving her feet off her desk and resting her elbows in their place. She had a feeling this was going to be an interesting phone call. Killian had had his phone for just over a week, and hadn't used it once yet. He found it difficult to work with his hook. She knew that if he had taken the time to fiddle with it and call her -or gotten Henry to turn it on like when he wanted to play Angry Birds the day before - that it must be important, or vaguely important anyway.

"I don't?" He said, quieter this time but still above a normal volume.

"No." She clarified.

"Ah, well, anyway, Swan..."He started to trail off, then Emma heard a mighty crash from his end of the phone, and her heart sped up. "Mind coming and giving me hand?"

"What's going on? Are you okay?" Emma was worried. She was finally starting to relax and get used to life in Storeybrooke without a disaster or fairytale villain looming over their heads.

"Just get to your parents place as soon as possible, love, no time to explain" He hung up just as a cry of frustration sou died from somewhere in the distance. Well, at least it didn't sound like an attack. She didn't think.

Opening the door to the apartment she shared with her parents, Emma was prepared for the worst; lungs ful of air ready to scream and a hand hovering close to her gun. But, none of that was necessary.

Killian and David were stood, both of their shoulders tense and stiff, glaring at something on the breakfast bar. Killian's hand was clasped tightly around something in a white knuckle fist.

"What's going on?" Emma asked, walking over to them and stifling a laugh at what was in front of them.

"Your dear ol' dad refuses to trade me Illinois Avenue for Boardwalk, even though I've given him a great deal!"

"You called me because of a game of monopoly?"

"It was his idea!" Killian defended, motoring towards David with a smug grin, "Told you the lass wouldn't be pleased"

"Emma, please explain to the pirate that such a little amount of money and one property is ridiculous to trade for this!" David exclaimed, holding up the card in question.

"I want no part in this. I'm going back to work, and you two can settle this the way everyone else settles a game of monopoly. Hate each other for the two hours you will actually play, and then mutually agree to throw the board and at the closest wall and call it a day." She laughed, giving them both a peck on the cheek before going back to work to file. Okay, she thought, maybe filing wasn't as fun as monopoly, but it was her shift and no doubt there'd be another eight calls about a chilly attack.

Three hours later, coming home from the station and slinging her coat onto the back of the chair, the board was gone from the kitchen.

Emma felt a sort of pride at knowing she was right, and that they'd never finish the game. Who ever finishes a game of monopoly? But, as she was about to climb into bed, she heard more frustrated grunts coming from the living room.

"Killian you can't get out of jail by knocking out the jailer! It doesn't work like that!"

"Pirate" Emma heard Killian respond.

"Cheat"

Emma went to bed hearing the sounds of dice being rolled and bath men chearing well into the night. In the morning, she woke to a piece of paper stuck to the fridge.

MONOPOLY TALLY:

David: 0

Killian: 1

Rematch to be held with a neutral judge present. I am certain he only won because he cheated, - David

No rematch needed, Mate. You know that I am superior at this thing you call a board game, -Killian

Emma chuckled, pouring herself a coffee and wondering who their judge would be, and making a mental note to stay out of the house that day.
