"Like a river flows surely to the sea, darling so it goes. Some things are meant to be. Take my hand, take my whole life too," Can't Help Falling in Love, Elvis Presley
It was finally the middle of October.
Everything was finally calming down with the Lawrence family. Nishan was finally wearing a smile on his face instead of that persistent scowl, Natalie was starting to spend more and more time with Noelani, feeling good enough to talk about Nevaeh, Eve was less snappy than she was when I first met her, and she and Leon were taking to spending more time together, going on dates and whatnot.
That left me with school, work, and jumbling these feelings that I had. That left me with deciding what to do with Travis because it wasn't awkward between us. It was just the fact that I had no idea what to do about the fact that was becoming more real each moment I talked to him.
"Hey, Ezra!" I turned on my heel, duster in hand to see Eve sauntering over to me with her purse on her arm. "That's me," I replied weakly, wondering what it was that she wanted from me. "Can do you me a favor?" She tilted her head and I stared, wondering if she was going to ask me to jump off of a cliff. "Sure?" I muttered and she clapped her hands together happily, getting closer to me. "You see," She began and I gulped, blinking through my contacts. "I was supposed to take Nishan his lunch today, but I kinda forget to make it. Also, take him his briefcase. I forgot that too."
I had some vague of where this was going and I didn't like it. Not at all. "Do you think that you can whip up some of his favorites and take it to him at work?" I nearly died on the spot at the image of stepping into that intimidating building with all of those intimidating people staring at me, judging me for wearing pants when I should've been wearing dress slacks. There was just no way possible that I could something so sinister.
"I will pay you more and not to mention," Eve had a sly smirk on her face as she inched in further, drawing my gaze to her. "Nishan did ask for you and not me," She chuckled, reaching up to tap me on the shoulder as she walked around me, leaving me in deep thought and cheeks burning.
I stared at the floor, an unconscious smile coming to my lips as I clasped my hands together, unsure of what to do with myself. He—he really asked for me to come? That was still kind of scary because what if he wanted to make a fool of me in front of all those important people, make it so that I couldn't get a job!?
But then he literally just got me this internship with Lucia Bianchi, which was going pretty well, I could admit. I had literally been working for a month and a half and so far, so much has changed and I didn't know to keep up with it. "I'll just ask Leon if he'd mind watching Noelani," I grumbled to myself, making my way towards the kitchen as I tried to remember what Nishan liked to eat.
For the last week and some days, he had been really different. From the moment that Chevonne told me that I was to deliver his meals to him, he had been waiting on me, tooth and nail, and he gave me no grief other than the casual insult that came out of his mouth without warning. He was making feel comfortable and I was just going along with the ride.
Because some part of me liked it.
Some part of me knew that we had stepped closer than intended, but none of us cared enough to step back because we were already in too deep. Some part of the both of us knew it because whenever I stepped into an area that he was and his eyes were already on me, intensely gleaming as if he was attempting to study everything that pertained to Ezra Moore, the tingling in my heart decided to make its appearance known.
And I didn't know why.
"Why are you smiling?" I heard a voice as I entered the kitchen, eyelids fluttering to the floor. This feeling was so foreign yet it made me feel like I was on some type of euphoric high. "Oh," I stared strangely at Chevonne, watching her mix together some type of cake. "I didn't realize that I was," Even if I tried to, I couldn't make the smile go away and it was frustrating because I knew why. He was on my mind.
