Since this story requires a little bit of context to understand it, I will give it to you. Also, if you find yourself wanting to know more I left a documentary that help me a lot during the process of writing of this short story.
First, I need to clarify that while it's based in real person, this is fiction and is not what really happened at the time of the terrible accident of Lady Di. I chose to follow this story line because I think is the one.
On August 31st of 1997, a car crash in Paris caused a lot of revolve around the world when authorities confirmed the death of three people. Dodi Fayed (former boyfriend of Lady Di), Henri Paul and Princess Diana of Wales. At first this was seen as an accident caused by the paparazzi who were chasing the car at high speed. Later on, the investigation guided by the French police said the cause of the accident was on Henri Paul, the driver of the Mercedes Benz, who was under the influence of alcohol and other medications. The circumstances of the accident are pretty complicated. The whole night itself didn't seem to fit with the protocol that the Princess should have followed.
Many people stated, how is possible that only one car without protection left the Hotel at twelve a.m, and even more with a drunk driver? Others also analyze, the reason why the driver decided to take a different route when they were supposed to go Dodi Fayed's flat on the other side of the city. This and other facts to the 'accident' opened space for suspicion that led conspiracy theories to grow stronger. One of the strongest theories says that the Royal family is behind the death of Lady Diana along with MI6 (Secret Service of the UK).
The case caused an immediate impact in the people, created a particular chaos of some sort. People became interested in trying to figure out what happened for a long time.
During the story will be always be reading from the Princess' POV, from the moment of the accident until she dies. In the meanwhile, she's having flashbacks of important parts of her life.
