E1 - A Beginning

Y/N was not a normal girl.

She lived with her mum. Most people were scared of her. She was unemployed, 23, and single.

And she's never had a partner, or even her first kiss.

That's about to change.

"Y/N!" You heard your mum calling you from the sitting room. "Y/N, come up here!"

"One sec, mum!" you called up, chucking another across the room.

You were busy with an art project you assigned yourself. Well, art project may not be the term.

You were busy making trash.

Throwing beer bottles at the wall was, you know, fun! It was cool seeing them shatter into a million tiny pieces once they hit the brick. You enjoyed watching things break, especially if you were the one breaking it.

"Y/N!"

"Coming!" you called -- you'd clean up later.

You ascend the stairs and open the basement door to find your mum with a cash wad in her hands. Your eyes light up.

She smiles at you. "So I was doing some thinking and decided to sell my wedding ring at the pawn shop down the road."

You start attempting to pry the money from her hands.

"Hold your horses, Y/N!"

You exhale a breath. "My horses are held, now give me the scratch!"

"Let me finish."

You pull the puppy eyes. "Pretty please, mummy?"

"Not yet, I already said to let me finish."

"Fine," you sigh.

"So I sold it at the pawn shop for two thousand American dollars -" your eyes light up, "- cash, and I came to the conclusion that you deserved a third of the money."

"A third?"

"A third. And I would fancy if you spent it on something appropriate," your mother begins to hand over the money but then stops herself, a third of her payment, to you and your greedy eyes. You're so desperate for coin at this point that the devil money ($666, you did the math) is a blessing.

"...maybe no beer. Take yourself on a date or something," your mother finishes.

"Aye aye, Cap'n," you salute, sniffing the cash.

"...And maybe don't do that."

Caleb Finn was passing by the U.S.A. to visit some old friends, and happened to end up in a place called Salt Lake City, Utah.

(pause. I know this isn't probably your city, but it's where I live so I'm most familiar with it, and I don't want to make any mistakes about another town/city. So deal with it, ya goober. Unpause.)

It was a confusing place. It smelled like the sea, which was strange, since the nearest coast was thousands of miles away. There were even seagulls in the sky and all over the parks. The city was small and not very interesting. There was a big arcade in a place called the Gateway, he noticed. He'd have to check it out sometime.

But first, supper!

Once you had traveled back downstairs, you decided you would take yourself out on a date, like mum said. You brushed your H/L, H/C hair for once, put on your black cat eyeliner as you always do, and finally opened the bright pink blush your mum bought you for the first time. The hard part was finding something nice to wear.

Opening your closet was always an adventure. It meant you had someplace to be, and that alone was exciting. Usually the only time you got out of your basement was to go to that jazz club, Gracie's, on Monday nights with Deb.

You flip through band merch, ripped jeans, raincoats, and pajamas. But nothing really ok.

Suddenly, you remember last Halloween. You went as Wednesday Addams, and Deb Pugsley.

You certainly still had the dress. That was nice enough. We need to impress ourself, you know.

You take Wednesday's dress out of its shoebox you and put it on. It looks above average.

And what if there's a cute boy?
