I brushed my fingers on the surface of the book and opened the fragile spine, hearing a satisfying crackling noise. I glanced at the summary on the back. It read, "In a treacherous, simplistic, plain, world, a girl finds her way through struggles and has an adventurous journey," in my head; I read it slowly but got all the way through.
I looked up, through the domed ceiling, and then realized that there was silence - the rain had stopped. The clouds became darker, if that was possible, but no rain fell.
I could almost feel the humidity brushing against my shoulders even while inside. I then realized that there was a draft coming from the wall. I smiled, and the excitement of making a story happen quickly came back to my brain, heart, and soul. I was thrilled to see what crazy occurrence in a matter of moments.
I flipped through the first few pages, skipping over the copyright information, author's note, (which I never found to be helpful or interesting, anyway), and the dedication. Finally, I got to page 1, and started to read silently.
When I looked around, and saw that nothing was moving or changing in appearance, I remembered to read out loud.
I checked my watch, just to be sure that I wasn’t going to be late to class. The seconds had stopped; time paused for this moment. I breathed a sigh of relief as I began to glance nervously at the words. “Slowly.” I said to myself. “Slowly, but surely.” I didn’t know what would happen if I messed up while reading the book, and didn’t want to find out.
