Prologue

It was May 7,1935 when the cruise ship S.S.Winslow set sail from France. It had 382 rooms and held up to 2,481 passengers. Debra and Keith Winslow, my mummy and daddy, owned that ship. Never did anyone imagine that a boat that grand would cost everyone their lives.  Precisely 19 hours, 27 minutes, and 53 seconds after departure, a steel rivet came loose from underneath the bottom of the vessel. I knew how and why, but no one dared to believe me. My name is Mary Winslow, and I am the only found survivor.

Chapter 1

Laughter and conversation filled the air around me; no one knew what was about to happen. I was ten years old and pretended to play with the steering mechanism of the ship while grown-ups behind me chatted casually. I imagined that I was guiding the ship to a lush, tropical island with a waterfall when suddenly, a sharp pain began growing in the back of my mind. The island started transforming into the bottom of the S.S.Winslow, and underwater I could see a dark silhouette carefully drilling through a rivet of the ship. My mind slowly changed from the scene to the deepest part of the hull in which water started seeping through a little hole about the size of a missing rivet. Screaming out in shock, the vision disintegrated, and I knew what it had meant. The boat would fill with water, sink, and everyone would going to die if I didn't hurry.

Parents rushed over to me to see what had happened as I tried to tell them what I had seen. They laughed to each other, “Kids have such active imaginations.” My parents nodded along with everybody, but their faces showed a hidden concern as everybody left. “Now, now,” they told me, “Settle down and tell us what you saw again.” I quickly told them, and they actually seemed to believe me even though no one else did. Their worried faces also told me that they were hiding something. Pretending to settle down, I falsely fell asleep as I listened in to my parents conversation.

“I knew that this day would come! I just knew it, and I even told you that this would eventually happen!” “ Now calm down Debra... I need to think about this. We both knew that Mary had been blessed in some way, and now we know how. She can see hidden dangers that no one else can and maybe even more that we haven't discovered yet.” My mummy piped in, “But nobody believes her! How will we warn every one? We can't say, ' Our ten-year-old daughter told us that someone destroyed part of the boat and now it is going to sink.' That would be really realistic, wouldn't it?!” They kept arguing as I thought about what they said; I could see hidden dangers that no one else could and maybe even more.

Chapter 2

As my parents rambled on in their conversation, I quietly snuck out to try and warn everyone about what was going to happen. I tugged severely at a gentleman’s coat as he gave me a harsh look and pushed me aside. Running up to a lady, I tried to politely tell her about the future that lay ahead as she rudely walked away. I felt like screaming since no one would even try to listen to me, but why would they? I was just a spoiled ten-year-old. Out of nowhere, my mum and dad both walked up to me and told me what I had previously had heard them say about my “special blessing.” I was about to tell them that the ship was going to sink any second when a piercing scream cut me off. Frantically looking around, I located where it came from.

The lady who had walked off earlier was staring at water leaking into the top of the boat as fast as any human could think possible. Before I knew it, everybody was running for their lives and screaming at the top of their lungs. I quickly shut my eyes and stood firm to try to block everything out and think. No one had believed me and look what that got them, I thought. The entire boat would be sunk in a matter of minutes and to think, I predicted it. Thinking of what I was capable of sent tingles down my spine all the way to my feet and back. When I opened my eyes, everything was deathly quiet.
