The present. We were back to where we should be. My confuzzled mind was everywhere. Mary had developed powers that I didn’t know she had. Now the question still remained to be answered. Were we the same person? If so, I had all those same powers… Now was not the time to think about that though. I had bigger problems on my hands.

I slowly got up on my feet while feeling the impact of my landing sore in my side. Mary was standing but 5 feet in front of me. She wore a playful, childish smile. Her intentions to harm me were nowhere to be found on her face. She looked like a kid that had accidently pushed someone off the slide on the playground. As I looked into her eyes, I still saw the evil within them. “Who’s in control?” Mary asked this as if asking someone to buy a box of cookies for charity. I spit on the ground in front of her and replied, “Definitely not you.” Her smile faltered for the slightest second then plastered back on. “Oh sweetie. We will see about that.

Suddenly, a tree trunk crackled as it split. I turned back to look as the plant fell within a foot of me. Turning back around, Mary was nowhere to be seen. Giggling pounded in my ears. She was nearby. Just close enough to control me, yet far enough away so I couldn’t see her. I had to know if I possessed these powers also. I concentrated on a rock to the left of me buried halfway into the sand. I tried with all my might to lift it. “I am in control,” I spoke to the rock. Nothing happened.

I should have known. Of course nothing would happen. I’m an idiot. Mary is toying with me… She is doing this on purpose. She has all these powers; I don’t. Maybe she is in control… Maybe I should just give up.
