The halls were crowded with people, and the chaos was so perfect, like a movie. There was the couple that was always making out on the left side of the hall, and about ten feet farther down, the cliquey girls. Opposite them, the cliquey jocks, and between them, the parade of band geeks with their huge instrument cases. We didn't really fit into any of them. I wondered a few times if I would be cool all of a sudden if they knew that I was Spiderman? Of course I would. But I couldn't tell everyone. I wouldn't get a minute of peace plus May would always be worried about everything that I ever did. Ned knew but only because he caught me in the suit one time and I didn't intend on adding to the list. "Hey," I jumped out of my thoughts to see the British girl that we met yesterday talking to Ned and apparently myself. Thalia was dressed as both a nerd with a hipster tied in with it. Something that I hadn't really seen done before - not well at least. She was casual, but smartly dressed in a burgundy skirt, black opaque tights, a brown jacket and a high neck black top with no sleeves. Her face was made up, but not over done with pale foundation, rosy cheeks and red lipstick that complimented her face perfectly and her shoulder length, unruly dark hair framed her face the way a lion's mane would an animal. But it wasn't just that. There was something in the way she held herself, as if unsure of where her limbs should be in order to appear naturally placed. Whereas the average person just walked along, barely aware of their surroundings, on autopilot just as much as those who commuted by car- her eyes moved quickly over everything in front behind her circular silver rimmed glasses, to the sides and ever few minutes behind also. The saying that British people had bad teeth was clearly nothing more than a rumor as she had a wonderful, bright white yet shy smile. I was honestly impressed when she stood up to Flash yesterday - he was clearly trying to impress her but that shut him down once and for all. Besides, she hated bullies. After a brief good morning, Ned rushed to his first class leaving me and Thalia alone. She awkwardly blushed but I suppose that's just how she was. Then again, I wasn't much better. Since when was it okay for either me or Ned to leave each other alone with a pretty girl in the middle of school. I nervously asked her where she was off to as I zipped up my backpack. "Physics," She told me as I chuckled and told her that I was too. We smiled and slowly began to make our way to Mrs Warren's room. To break the silence I asked her what she wanted to do when she graduated to which she seemed to light up. "The dream is to work for Stark Industries," She told me with a beaming smile. I told her enthusiastically that I did too and that I had the internship. "Really?" She yelled. "I didn't even know they did those," She told me which showed me that she had clearly looked into it. She really wanted to work for Mr Stark. "The work he does is amazing," She muttered almost to herself before looking back at me and recapturing my attention. "For both the company and as Iron Man," I gulped. I nervously smiled and asked her if she had seen the Avengers. "Of course! I mean they've never been to England so it's mostly just been online really," I joked at her nervously that maybe she should try out for the Avengers, then she could work for Tony Stark but she laughed and shook her head, holding her hands up in defense. "Oh god no! I'm scared of heights," She told me which shocked me a little. I was never really bothered by them but then again I would have had to get over it anyway. She was right tho, the majority of the Avengers had fought on high ground including myself. Then she laughed again and pushed her glasses back up her face. "Besides, I'm not special," I was stunned that she thought this and yelled at her that she was smart. Most of the Avengers used their smarts. I built my own web shooters, Banner was a scientist and Tony builds... well everything to do with the Avengers. I told her honestly with a raised eyebrow that she shouldn't underestimate intelligence. Once we reached the class, I opened the doors and we went in. To my dismay, Flash was already in the class. I rolled my eyes and I could see Thalia adjusting her glasses trying not to look at him but luckily, he didn't say a word to either of us all lesson. I sat beside Thalia and watched her. She was really smart! Like really really smart. I could barely keep up with her ability to problem solve and work out mathematical equations. Towards the end of the lesson when she got one final answer correct I was in awe.
"You're really smart, I'm sure Mr Stark would think so too," I told her with a smile as she blushed asking if I really thought so to which I nodded. "When you graduate I'm sure Mr Stark would hire you in a heartbeat!" She smiled and blushed a little, pushing her hair behind one ear which was the first time I'd seen her do that. I saw more of her face in that moment than I had seen at all the previous day. It bewildered me why such a pretty girl would want to spend her days with me and Ned like she could easily fit in with Flash and his friends yet she chose not to. Distracting us from our conversation, Mrs Warren addressed the whole class.
"Our next assessment will be a paired project," She told us and I froze - I knew exactly what was coming. "I want you to pair up with the person next to you and create a demonstration and a presentation of G-forces and the effect that they have on aircraft and astronauts," That wouldn't be hard. I dealt with these equations on a daily basis when working with my webs and figuring out how much I could get away with with my new powers in regards to my well being. Thalia smiled at me and took a piece of paper from my book and scribbled down a number before tearing it and handing it to me. She had just given me her number!
"We should probably have a way to contact each other if we're going to do a project," I nodded nervously. "And send me Ned's number?" She asked to which I agreed. It was then when the bell sounded to signify the next period. "Health?" She asked me almost hopefully as she grabbed her bags but I shook my head.
"Computer science," I told her. She seemed a little deflated that would have to go to her next class alone and I did pity her. I hated going to classes alone now and I'd been here since I was a freshman whereas she was completely new.
