the end.

I woke up tired. Not refreshed. Tired. I hadn't slept at all the last few nights. I think I have some small case of insomnia or something. Or maybe I had some sixth sense or something. Unlikely to the point that it couldn't be possible but sometimes its fun to think that way. But whatever this was, I hated it, because I love my sleep.

Anyways, I'm Kathleen. I live in California and attend St. James Academy. I know it sounds like some boring prep school, but 1. its totally a public school and all of the people who go there are insane (in the most normal way), and 2. they wear uniforms in prep school, and I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a school uniform. Ever.

Now, I didn't hate school, but i didn't love it either. Apparently at 13 I'm supposed to start figuring my life out, but whats the fun in that? I liked school due to the fact that I got to be with my friends all day everyday, so thats a definite upside. I just hate math and science more than I hate socks and sandals. Trust me, thats saying something.

This morning I was feeling like quite the antisocial person. I hit the snooze button 1,2,3 times then finally got up. I looked at myself in the mirror and decided to save that tragedy for later and continue on with my life. Now, I have to find food. I walked upstairs and "leggo'd my eggo" with blueberries and brown sugar sauce, because I hate syrup. Not more than socks and sandals though so I guess you could say I just highly despise syrup. Yeah that works. I then went to the bathroom where my mom was already getting ready for her day.

Mom: Hey hun, you look great today.

I stare at her in total disbelief

Me: Mom have you seen me?

Mom: Yes I have

Me: I haven't even gotten ready yet

Mom: Oh thank god

She says with a sigh of relief

Thanks mom.

In the middle of brushing and straightening my blonde hair, my sister pops in. Joy...

Bailey (sister): What happened to you?

Me: You don't look to great either.

Bailey: Well at least I look better then you.

Me: Don't flatter yourself.

She stuck out her tongue and made a dramatic exit, which would have been super offensive if I had been in third grade.

Well Bailey, where do I start with Bailey. Shes in grade 6 and she's my little sister. She has dirty blonde hair cut just above her shoulders and she has a total sassy attitude. She thinks she is the coolest, I object. She uses words like "swag" and "yolo" and just... -facepalm-.

Once I looked human again I put on my combat boots, and started walking to school. I do this every day. Since me and Bailey have to find a way to live in the same house I need to find some Kathleen time somewhere. I popped in my earphones and cranked my Shawn Mendes.

The air was cool today, well for California standards that is. Looking back at it now, I guess I should have thought more of it, but whatever. My cheeks stung slightly and I could feel my nose beginning to run. I could hear a faint rumbling noise and then everything was silent. I'm not gonna be all corny and say "almost too silent" but it kind of was. I stopped for a second and just stood there. I shrugged and kept walking. I made it to school in no time at all and walked up to my group all huddled by the lockers.

One of my closest friends Brooke turned around to hug me immediately after I joined our conversation, She has long brown hair just past her mid back with several blonde highlights. I was taller than her, but not by much. She has big green eyes and her makeup is on point 24/7. I could see why her boyfriend Tanner liked her so much.

Mia was another one of my close friends. She was taller than me with brown hair. She has big blue eyes and wears her glasses almost all the time.

There were also some guys in our group who I guess I'll talk more about later. Brooke and I stopped hugging, and Mia was standing there, arms crossed, hip popped.

Mia: I'm here too!

She gestures to herself and holds out her arms embracing a hug.

Brooke: Awe muffin.

She says mocking Mia with fake laughter in her voice.

Mia rolls her eyes and we share in a group hug. Thats when the bell rings and we have to report to our class before morning announcements. Since its so early in the year we all got to choose our seats. Which generally means everyone we hang out with on a daily bases sits there.

Our principal starts with the same announcements as every day. Which teacher fills in for who, birthdays, blah blah blah.

Thats when the start of the end began. The lights flashed dramatically and the intercom kicked out with a high pitched squeal. Everything went cold. I could see my clouds of breath. Everything was happening so fast. The intercoms seemed to be hacked or something. There was heavy breathing on the other end and I looked at Brooke and Mia frantically. Mia's face was drained of all colour, and Brooke was looking straight forward with a scared look on her face. I musn't have look to well myself because shortly after the guys joined us. Mia's boyfriend Taylor came over to comfort her, as did Tanner for Brooke. Shortly after, I realized that I was being comforted-

Suddenly a low raspy voice cut into the intercom.

Voice: All around you...we have placed explosives...attempt to fight back...you are just taking it out on you...send out whoever is in charge...you have five minutes.

That was it.
