Chapter 1 - You're a Walking Skyscraper

I trailed behind everyone and gripped onto Noah's arm as he entered the bar, laughing along with his friends. I pulled him back toward me, hesitant to go any farther. The stench of alcohol reached my nose, lingering and causing me to wince the moment it reached me. I felt a cool breeze on the back of my neck and hugged my arms tighter to my body, trying to preserve some body heat.

"How'd you find this place?" I looked across the place to see the title of the small pub in downtown. Screws.

"I dunno, a friend of a friend or something mentioned it to me." He grinned, his vision already clouded and voice slurring. "Why? What's wrong, momma?"

I felt bile rise in my throat as he used the term of endearment he had always told me was cute and just proved oh so much how he respected me but it just made me want to barf. I'm supposed to be your girlfriend, not your mother. I pray to God you don't think about your mom when you kiss me.

"Are you sure about this?" I cooed, feeling embarrassed for being the only one not into it. "I mean, why don't we just go back to the other party? Everyone from our school is there and its closer to home anyway."

"Yeah, but you see, everyone cool is here." He rolled his eyes at me before yanking his arm from my prying nails and wrapped his arm around my hips, leading me inside. "Come on, you'll be just fine."

I felt a small, reassuring glimmer of hope but it abandoned me the minute I walked through the doors and he went off to hang out with his friends or drink at the bar. I looked around at all the drunk, groping bodies that swarmed into a huge mass. A wave of nausea washed over me as I made my way toward the bar, only to find even more obnoxious people. I pushed through a door and found myself stumbling into the kitchen. By the look of it, I wasn't supposed to be in here but with all the busy workers rushing around, no one took a second glance at me. I let out a breath I hadn't noticed I was holding and weaved through all the people who rushed around, all having something to do. I tentatively picked up a glass from a drying rack and looked around. Realising no one was going to stop me, I made my way toward a soda dispenser and filled my cup up with Sprite. I sat it back down in its canister and saw a waitress staring at me. She had bright red lipstick that spotted her teeth and blew a gum bubble before pulling it back into her mouth, not helping the whole red-teeth situation. She smacked it at me before turning around and wandering off to do whatever she was expected to do. I felt my heart beat begin to decrease as I made my way out an exit and onto a well lit sidewalk. I searched through my clutch before popping two pills into my mouth and taking a sip from my soda. I sighed and leaned my head back against the brick, waiting for the pills to stop my throbbing head ache.

I heard someone clear their throat and I almost jumped as I turned to look at the peculiar looking boy approaching me. He took a long drag from his cigarette before flicking it. He gave me a small smile and nodded toward my bag.

"Got any more of that?" He said in a smooth, deep voice that caused me to shiver.

I looked him over from head-to-toe, taking his entire appearance in at once. His hair was mostly chestnut colored and wasn't necessarily long but he was definitely due for a trim and it was messy but almost in the way he had meant for it to. A double bottom lip piercing on the left corner of his mouth and small gauges caused me to stare. He had dark green eyes that made me uneasy. I shuffled under his stare and I tried my hardest not to show how nervous he made me.

"Its prescription." I sent a polite smile to which he nodded, making his way closer.

"What's a girl like you doing at a club in this part of town? I mean you don't see floral jeans down here too often." He propped an eyebrow and I felt a flame furrow in my chest as I couldn't help but think he was making fun of me.
