Summary: Brett doesn't expect his past to catch up with him. But when it does, he finds himself deciding whether or not to embrace the very thing he ran away from to protect the man he loves, Eddy Chen. [6143 words, ~30-35 minute read]

Warnings: Depictions of violence, death.

Notes: If you weren't a fan of Stradivarius, Promise Me, and Silver and Gold, then you definitely will not like this one haha;; You can think of this as all three of those one-shots thrown into a blender. This is mainly just practice and forcing myself to write from Brett's PoV (which I think is a heck of a lot harder than writing from Eddy's-).

A super slow start, but hopefully it'll be alright. This will be a two-shot again - Savior, the second part, will be coming out soon. If you want to read the entire thing as a whole, you should probably wait.

Anywho, enjoy, and thanks for reading!

The wind rustled the grass. It felt real, brushing Brett's hair to the side as he stumbled forward, glancing around to figure out where he was. All around him was grass and flowers, so tall that they almost reached his hips. The skies were littered with stars that twinkled and glowed; they were mesmerizing to look at, and Brett couldn't stare at anything else other than the dots of light.

He held his breath, his hand picking a small white flower. The petals were so delicate. They wilted as soon as he plucked it from the grass, curling in on itself and dropping to the dirt ground in a matter of seconds.

Brett blinked as he dropped the stem, which had already turned brown. He froze at the sound of something else in the distance. A familiar voice, calling his name loud and clear.

"Eddy." He could only whisper. "Eddy, I'm here."

His voice was so low that the crows flying above his head couldn't hear it. Brett's entire body shook as he struggled to take steps towards the voice, which grew louder by the second. He was rooted to the ground, unable to move any more than an inch at a time. He gritted his teeth, dragging himself closer to Eddy even if it took all of his energy.

"Brett? Where are you?"

He swallowed. Another step. "I'll be right there. Wait for me."

Eddy appeared in the far distance. Brett's eyes widened as Eddy's figure grew larger, until he could clearly see all of the details on his face in the darkness: his warm eyes, brightening at the sight of Brett; his wide grin, revealing his imperfect, yet perfect, teeth; his red cheeks, growing redder as he stepped closer. He could feel his own heartbeat racing as Eddy continued to walk, his hair swaying in the gentle wind. He had never looked so perfect.

Brett stopped moving. The closer Eddy was to him, the harder it was for him to fight the force that wanted to pull him back. He was spending all of his energy trying to stand perfectly still. "Eddy. Come here."

The next thing he knew, he felt Eddy's hands wrap around his head and neck. They were warm against the cold night air. Brett's stared into Eddy's eyes, taking note of the stars that reflected in them and the amount of joy they held. His heart swelled as his hands cusped Eddy's cheeks. He pulled Eddy's face down closer to his, ignoring the quiet gasp of surprise that escaped Eddy's mouth. He could feel every single one of Eddy's rushed breaths on his flushed skin.

His mind was racing. His thumb trailed Eddy's lips. He was trembling as he continued to stand there, listening to the quiet ticking of a clock in the background. It was a drone, underneath the rustle of the grass and the squawks of the crows, further calming Brett down in this moment. All he wanted to focus on was Eddy, and the peace in the background was allowing him to do so. A small smile rested on Brett's face.
