Eddy's eyes were wide as they stared at the little bright dots, admiring how they twinkled. The skies were dark, almost pitch-black, and there was no trace of city life here. The only thing that could vaguely remind him of conservatory and the stress that came with it was Brett, who sat on the dirt right next to him.

But tonight was meant to be a quiet night for the both of them. Eddy had insisted that they visit the forest here, just like every other first-year. Supposedly, it brought good luck. Wishes and promises made here would be fulfilled. Some even said that if one slept here for the night, whatever they dreamed about would come alive. Eddy smiled at the thought of that. If this place was truly magical, then he hoped that his dreams would be good tonight.

"Brett?"

"Hm?" Brett looked over.

"What are you going to wish for?"

Brett wasn't smiling; in fact, he looked rather lost. "I don't know. I think I just... want to be a soloist. It's been a dream since, when?"

"Before we even met." Eddy leaned his back against the tree. "I think that's awesome though. You'd be able to do it. Be better than Heifetz and everyone."

Brett laughed. "If only."

Both boys admired the stars once more. Eddy shut his eyes. When the stars heard Brett's wishes, he hoped that they would come true as soon as possible. Then Brett would be truly happy, and Eddy would be right there as his greatest supporter. He would be by Brett's side as the trickster he was, making strange music jokes and watching Brett smile after a stressful day.

Brett's voice brought Eddy back to reality. "What do you want for your future?"

"Uh," Eddy hesitated, opening his eyes. He let out an uncertain laugh. "It's a little odd compared to yours. Kind of dumb."

"Oh, come on. We all know that I'm not going to actually be a soloist in the near future. I'm not special enough." Brett grinned. "Words are just words; wishes are just wishes. What's yours?"

Eddy raised an eyebrow. "If I see you at Carnegie in a few years, I'm going to say that you were absolutely wrong."

"Stop dodging the question and answer it. What's your wish?"

There was no escape from Brett's inquisitive self. Eddy sighed, resting his head on his knees. He stared at the stars again, and he could have sworn that they seemed brighter than they were before, as if they were pushing him to say his wish out loud.

"I just... want to be with you. Maybe forever, maybe for as long as possible. I'm not so sure."

The skies dimmed.

"With me?" Brett's grin faded slightly. "Of all people?"

Eddy shrugged. "Who else?"

"Your parents. Your sister. Another friend. Your future girlfriend or boyfriend. And you choose me?"

"You're my best friend. I can't imagine not doing anything without you." He smiled gently. "I figured that you wanted to perform and share classical music with everyone. Can't we do that together, even if you will be a soloist at some point?"
